Did You Hear? :: Were there any Usher fans actually in attendance at Afghan Wigs ' South By Southwest gig at the FADER Fort over the weekend? There sure were after the R&B-pop crooner surprised the audience by stepping on stage and performing with the veteran alt rock band. (Watch above.) [ Stereogum ] :: We're not sure if the timing on this one is ill or perfect (probably both), but a video for Mack Maine , Lil Wayne and Talib Kweli 's ironically-titled "Celebrate" has premiered.

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Dan Reilly There are thousands of artists in Austin for SXSW , and I'll be seeing a lot of them. This year, I decided to challenge myself and write about every band I see, no matter how much of their set I caught, or even if I saw/heard them unintentionally. Most of these "reviews" are pieced together from my illegible notebook scribblings, but that's all I've got. [...]

While Friday night everywhere is about going to parties and getting too inebriated to accurately recall the course of the evening, that sense of hedonism always gets heightened when you're at South by Southwest . But while a huge chunk of ATX was chugging $11 beers and hitting that most wacky of tobaccy, Consequence of Sound  was indulging in its own solitary drug of choice: music. Based on some of our choices, from a mid-'90s Southern rapper sensation to a riotous English psych-punk band, you might think we  were the one's on drugs. But really, we just happened to find [...]

Here's an entry in the Strange Bedfellows canon , SXSW edition: During their headlining set at the Fader Fort last night, The Afghan Whigs were joined on stage by none other than Usher . With the Whigs segueing into a random cover of "Climax", Usher strolls in at the 16-minute mark to replace Dulli's screeching vocals with something more satiny before jumping into sweltering versions of "OMG" and the Whigs’ "Somethin’ Hot" (not to mention a touching shot-out to Lil Wayne ). As Mr. Raymond himself put it, it's all about "having a good time, finding a [...]
We'll have more on this when we post our SXSW roundup for last night, since your entire Stereogum staff was on hand for it, but something strange and amazing happened last night at the FADER Fort. The night's headliners, boozy Ohioan underground legends the Afghan Whigs, were a few songs into a tough and grizzled set when Greg Dulli started singing Usher's "Climax" and, a few seconds later, Usher himself was onstage next to the man, singing. For the rest of the half-hour set, the Afghan Whigs served as Usher's backing band, doing atmospheric and bluesy versions of his songs [...]
VICE If you’re not already on your Vice game you need to catch up before this heat drops on HBO next month. With a cult magazine and one of the hottest youtube channels out there, this company has been doing seriously big things for quite a while and look set to impress with the new series. As always, I won’t even attempt to segue into the entirely unrelated collection of female r&b jams below. Ciara - Body Party Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody? [...]

Last month, the ATG team celebrated Valentine's Day with a writer-by-writer exposé of the number one love song of all time . This month, our tenderness has turned, and we're taking a look at the Wario of love songs, the breakup song. Which homage to heartbreak reigns supreme? How do the breakups break down? Resident B3 scientist Erin Feathers recently connected with rising indie R&B producer, and all around creative-type (best watch out for those), JMSN for a brief one-on-one about the musician's story, music, and what the future holds. Take a look at their conversation below. B3SCI: A little background on yourself for our readers, after several attempts to be happy making music on major labels, you fashioned your own label for the release of your 2012 album †Priscilla†. Can you tell us more about your label White Room Records and how it has affected you [...]

Check out salutes latest remix for "Climax" by Usher. The diplo produced track leaked online during 2012 without any name attached it to it before it was officially released. Once Usher dropped "Climax" the song climbed the charts bringing Mr. Raymond back into relevancy. Salute chops and screws the track with a minimalist intro leading up to a new percussions. Autre Ne Veut is on the cusp of bigger things, but at this moment he stands on the stage of a sold-out show at Santos Party House and stares into the eyes of every crowd member the spotlight hits. The deep, electronic bass thrums behind him and back-up singer sisters of Zambri —who were enlisted for this show—waft their arms lazily behind him. But Arthur Ashin is seeing the last time he will perform at this level, he’s seeing the path that his break-out album Anxiety will lead him down: he’s seeing the future. [...]

Any day that goes by without even so much as a transient burst of David Longstreth's Dirty Projectors is one which somehow leaves me feeling strangely unfulfilled. And truth be known, I've thus far this year rather neglected Swing Lo Magellan  so it's something of a saving grace that they released this one over the weekend. There's A Fire originally featured as the flipside to a limited white label release of Offspring Are Blank pressed especially to coincide with a show at New York's Carnegie Hall last month, and it's one to really rekindle [...]
Jermaine Dupri 's iconic hip-hop label So So Def turns 20 this month. To celebrate, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey crashed its anniversary concert in Atlanta - what was already a star-studded affair, thanks to appearances by Nelly and Ludacris . Last night (February 23), Hov gave thanks to the producer with a brief set: He launched into The Black Album 's "Public Service Announcement," then "Paris." Dupri challenged him to "Jigga What, Jigga Who (Originator 99)," but instead, Jay-Z opted for his verse in "Clique." (Could he hear Kanye [...]
