True story: I heard "Ruby Soho" at a sushi bar last week and I instantly thought that Vampire Weekend would sound great performing this. And they do. Everyone's favorite chart-topping indie darlings stopped by a popular radio show, and covered Rancid's "Ruby Soho", an event to which I will ascribe cosmological significance to, given what happened at the sushi bar. Last week Vampire Weekend stopped by BBC's studio's to record a live session for Zane Lowe. Usually band's are allowed to pick a song to cover, and Vampire Weekend choose Rancid's "Ruby Soho". Vampire Weekend (well, at least frontman Ezra Koenig) has made no attempt to hide his love for '90s punk and ska. So in that sense, it's totally reasonable that when the band went onto BBC Radio One recently to record a session, they recorded a cover of Rancid's "Ruby Soho" during the part of the session where all bands record a cover. It's basically exactly like you'd expect this to be: It's all delicate, erudite, and less punky than the Rancid original .
