I recently watched Shut Up and Play The Hits , which brought back all the waves of emotion from LCD Soundsystem 's final concert just over two years ago. In honor of that seminal moment in modern indie rock history, here's 10 covers of LCD's greatest tune (and best song of the 2000s) "All My Friends" in various formats, plus LCD's momentous live version from Madison Square Garden. 01. Franz Ferdinand MP3 02. John Cale [...]

Beach Party make soulful, gritty 60's garage rock that is so appealing to the pop sensibilities that it would make Joe Meek proud. In between the abrasive gang vocal shouts of "C'mon, C'mon, let's have some fun!" are the catchy guitar riffs that keep you coming back for more. It's their ability to embrace the energy and excitement of old school surf/garage rock, while still managing to keep their sound fresh and firmly grounded in the present that proves this band is one to watch. If you're jonesing for some modern references, they are at times touching on [...]

At first you wonder what an angry, frustrated old man is doing in a video for Vanaprasta 's feel-good pop-rock tune "Self-Indulgent Feeling," but when 1:11 mark hits (nice timing considering this band's obsession with numbers) the dour protagonist takes a jolly turn — certainly not the last mood change in the story. Directors Scott Beck & Bryan Woods of Bluebox Films take the plot to wild and dark places, and what follows is carnage right out of a Tarantino film. Which only concludes us to warn: Beware of your super fans. (And watch out for grandpas.) Vanaprasta's "Healthy [...]

Vanaprasta knows where rock music has been, and the Los Angeles quintet knows where it wants to take it. “Someplace mystical,” singer Steven Wilkin says, “where there's arena-sized sound.” We at KKS were lucky to have the fellas swing by our SXSW "In Session" series for a stripped down acoustic performance of the band's song "Nine Equals Nine." Check out below the video and soundcloud download, below! You may also enjoy...: [...]

The stage at Opal Divine's Freehouse in Austin is like a treehouse stationed at the end of a picnic area. For almost seven hours Wednesday at Buzz Bands LA's "Dear Austin, Love L.A." day party, nine Los Angeles bands used it as their plaything, dispensing crisp sets as if they were all on a family outing to South by Southwest. Rock quartet Dead Sara did its best to steal the show, with frontwoman Emily Armstrong (top photo) clambering to the top of the speaker to belt out the hit single "Weatherman" as guitarist [...]

Based in LA, Prince Vince is a young producer/remixer who has been pumping out heavy, club-friendly tracks for a while now, slowly building a solid following amongst clubgoers. His most highly circulated remix to date is probably his feverish bass-heavy mix of Sia 's "Clap Your Hands". Stream below... Sia - Clap Your Hands (Prince Vince Remix) Prince Vince has also produced remixes for The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Marla, Van Go Lion or Róisín Murphy and his latest production is a reworking of LA rising indie rock band [...]

Have a fabulous 3/9/12: ► Guns N' Roses , or a reasonable facsimile thereof, play the Palladium. (And it's not sold out?) ► Vanaprasta (pictured) plays its first local gig in a few months when they bring their electric live show to the Bootleg Bar, where they are joined by Caught a Ghost and TS & the Past Haunts . ► Denmark's Choir of Young Believers bring their orchestral pop to the Echo, supported by AU and Big Search. ( "Nye Nummer Et" is gorgeous.) [...]

In April, Los Angeles indie rockers Vanaprasta will return with Effie House Sessions , a new five-track EP featuring reimagined, semi-acoustic versions of tracks from their 2011 debut, Healthy Geometry . The EP was recorded in December at the eponymous studio in LA's Silverlake district with producer Dave Schiffman. Among the cuts that made the final tracklist is the once anthemic "Come On". The new version features a slow, methodical pacing, laid out in part thanks to a heavy, somber piano line and punctuated with sorrowful horns. Perpetuating that air of forlorn, singer Steven Wilkin delivers [...]
If you witnessed any of the searing live performances of Vanaprasta late last year, you got the feeling the L.A. quintet was an arena-rock band lacking only an arena. The blood-pumping (and mind-bending) music on its November debut "Healthy Geometry" is perfect for big spaces and bright lights — but, as it turns out, those songs can be illuminated in other ways. Today Vanaprasta releases its "Effie House Sessions" EP — it's exclusively on Spotify for a month before hitting digital retailers — that offers stripped-down, more contemplative takes on five songs from "Healthy Geometry." Andrea [...]
