![Logic @ Fortune Sound Club [Show Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5007410_lg.jpg)
Vancouver’s Fortune Sound Club has a knack for attracting the greatest in up and coming artists, from the coldest rappers to fast-emerging DJs all over the continent. To those of you reading this, wherever you are, you all know that spot in your city that has that reliability. Despite Vancouver’s broiling music culture, rap is one genre in the city that has some room to grow. Vancouver isn’t a source of new and popular hip hop music by any means, and there’s no telling if and when that will change, but something can be said about the rappers [...]

Sleepy Tom's debut EP The Currency was exactly what we all expected, fresh and exciting. His sounds are different from the rest but still delivers that strong electro noise with an extra... oomph! The FVDED team is doing a EP Release Party June 19th and honestly... it's a must attend. RSVP to get on the guestlist HERE and stream or cop The Currency below! Cop The Currency on Beatport HERE ! @ Logic301 A young talent from Maryland will be hitting the stage at Fortune for the first time this Friday. The 23 year old rapper has really made waves this year by making the XXL Freshman class of 2013, and releasing an awesome mixtape titled Young Sinatra: Welcome to forever (get it here ). The content of the mixtape blew me away, the rapping and production are on point which isn't surprising considering heavyweight producers such as NO I.D. Key Wayne, Don Cannon and others contributed. As of April 15th Logic has signed with Def Jam, [...]

Jerome Potter came to Fortune Sound last month for the first ESC CTRL Shift event, after his hour set I got to drink and chat with him. We talked about him, his interests and what's to come, check it out! Q: First, what attracted you to the whole web 1.0 scene? I did the first video in that style in August 2010 and at that time I was influenced by people in Los Angeles like Total Freedom and NGUZUNGUZU were doing this party called "Wildness" and they had that aesthetic. [...]
Vancouver’s Said The Whale offers up an uptempo three song preview of their forthcoming album in the form of the I Love You EP.

Hey I’m Rykka. I’m from Vancouver and I tour lots. I wrote my new album, Kodiak , from animal perspective to somehow try to bridge the gap between human and animal. I found that by viewing the world from these perspectives, I became more aware of myself, and more aware of how everything is connected to everything. It took me almost a full year to write Kodiak, and it was a struggle the whole time. After I finally had enough material, Ryan Guldemond and I sat down and realized the album together. It’s always really [...]
![Cold War Kids & Superhumanoids @ The Vogue [Photo Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4979525_lg.jpg)
By the time I got to the Vogue Theatre , the opening act — Superhumanoids — had just finished their first song and I was incredibly tired. I knew nothing of Cold War Kids , let alone Superhumanoids, and it was also my first time photographing a show at the Vogue. I got a metallic square sticker—my press pass. This is a first, I thought. I never found out what having the sticker did for me, except no one asked to look inside my bag once I showed them my pass. Interesting. Imagining the [...]
Formed from the ashes of The Ed Fitz, Foals re-invigorated and re-invented a genre with their unique blend of minimal and post hardcore mathletics. In February, the English rockers released their third studio album entitled "Holy Fire." Debuting at number two on the UK album charts, "Holy Fire" received a 9/10 on NME and was heralded as the bands most honest work to date. Following a sold-out show at the Commodore Ballroom tomorrow evening, the official after party will take place at Fortune Sound Club with a Foals DJ Set and special performances [...]
![Flying Lotus, Teebs & Thundercat @ The Vogue Theatre [Show Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4977201_lg.jpg)
I still find it hard to describe how epic my past Thursday night was, as I experienced an enormous amount of different, but very unique positive emotions. This is all thanks to the very talented BRAINFEEDER crew – featuring boss Flying Lotus and counterparts Thundercat and Teebs , who visited the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver Thursday May 23 rd . Teebs began the night, followed by a live, upbeat set from Thundercat (accompanied by a live drummer and keyboard player), and ending with the outstanding audio/visual masterpiece that is Flying Lotus’s [...]

It must have been four or five years since Montreal techno legend (and the first electronic artist that I fell in love with), Tiga, last played a show in Vancouver so I really couldn't be happier to see him booked at a venue as intimate as Shine. Ahhhhhhh..... Ahhhhh........ RSVP on Facebook // Ziad Ramley Related posts: Brenmar and Salva @ Shine Nightclub, Vancouver Jan. 13th [...]

Montreal's Kaytranada opened for Kastle at Fortune Sound May 19th and we even got JMSN to come up the street from his Electric Owl show to perform "Alone". It's easy to say that we had lots of talent in the building that night. I got to speak with Kaytranada after his performance about personal interests, future projects and his current European tour. Keep in mind English is not his first language, excuse his french. Q: First off, what was the first song that really hit off for you? [...]

This past Sunday evening I had the pleasure of attending Fortune Sound Club with my photographer in crime Ren Burress, a fellow bay native living out life here in cloudy Vancouver. Ren and I ventured deep into Vancouver’s historic Chinatown district to Fortune, for a live performance from San Francisco’s very own Kastle , and Canadian remix-god Kaytranada . As this was Kastle’s second time visiting Vancouver this year, the anticipation for this show couldn’t have been higher. Upon hearing this announcement I jumped joyously, though when I heard that he would be performing singles from [...]

Dear friends, We’re a band called Heard In The Mountains from Vancouver, Canada. We just released our first EP and would be honoured if you gave it a listen. All five of us spent the past year living together in a small 2-bedroom house (affectionately named The Rockshire Stable) and it was in our basement that these songs took form. Heard In The Mountains has united over 12-ft memory foam jumps, bedroom dogpiles, waterfall swimming and latenight porch gatherings, and our journey continues on. We can now be heard playing loud into the night in an old heritage [...]

Vancouver's very own Sleepy Tom has been making quite the buzz lately, a year ago he was the Fools Gold mascot at A-Trak's show and now he's putting out his debut EP through Fools Gold Records. It's quite amazing what you can achieve if you sit down and put your head to it, this EP is pure proof of that. From beginning to end the teaser gives you chills and makes you wanna get up and dance, every single track is pure quality electronic music. Congrats to Sleepy for the success and much love for what's to come. [...]

To experience a performance from Vancouver-based alternative/indie outfit Philoceraptor is to know them. The first time I caught them live, front man (?) Justin Penney partied his way off a stool and broke some vital bones in his body, prompting tears (allegedly) and an internet apology - this was preceded by an exquisite rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, acapella, by fellow vocalist Steve Mann. Not to be outdone, human abacus/drummer Phil Jette held the trio together with the stoic responsibility of mayonnaise in a classic BLT. Here is their debut record , self-described as "songs [...]
Vancouver’s Sunshine deserves to be on your list of need to know bands and if you need convincing, then we assure you that it won’t take long.
Vancouver-based duo WMNSTUDIES are known for transforming sultry R/B tracks into dance floor anthems. Their latest creation, a rework of Usher's 'Nice and Slow', is no different. It takes you back to a time when Usher wasn't involved in reality television programs hosted by Carson Daly, and what a glorious time that was. Check their Soundcloud page for a free download. posted by @clarkbs
When I snagged Zachary Gray (left above) from The Zolas , backstage at his sold out show at the Vogue Theatre (with Calgary band The Dudes ), Zach was a little preoccupied, juggling his two "strapping Scandinavian" merch guys, getting family into the venue and he was being haunted by the ghost of legendary musician Prince (who had performed at the Vogue the night before). This is probably how I got him to spill all the details of his first girlfriend-among other things. Listen to our chat. the interview [...]

It has been quite a long time since I deeply listened to some Rock that really impressed me, let alone local. A close friend of mine had told me that old High School buddies from New West had released some material under the name " Hillfolk " so once I got home I found one of them on Facebook and there it was. All of the members in this band are talented musicians so I was not surprised to find myself replaying the 3 tracks they've put out so far. The wide range of influences that they have completely shows [...]

Here is 8prn 's take on Outkast's anthemic pop classic "Roses". This may be the dopest remix we have heard from Patrick Holland so far... That said–he has a handful choice cuts in his remix discography already. ( His adaptation of Evy Jane's "nothing so great" is a personal favourite.) If you are feeling 8prn 's steez, put on his 'escape' mix; it's fresh out of the oven: You can catch him tomorrow night in Vancouver at Fortune. He [...]
