Albums from dance music producers seem to be an ever increasingly rare event. Dance music fans who aren't DJs kind of get shafted these days, seldom getting to really delve into synergistic collections of songs from one artist. Laberge is doing his best to balance out this inequality with his new mini-album Extended Vacation... a release that's equally listener and DJ friendly. Laberge made Extended Vacation entirely on his MCP and it's stuffed with lots of crunchy drums, jazzy keyboard runs and deep deep vibes. You can purchase it directly off his bandcamp page for $5... here [...]
Colorado-based band The Lumineers is currently on tour in support of their debut album which will be released April 3rd.
Said the Whale cracks a few jokes and talks about everything from Nicki Minaj to drawing inspiration from microbialites at the bottom of a lake.

If you dig hard enough, you can find some really incredible groups putting out records on bandcamp. That's how I discovered this great number from Little Chords , an act hailing from Vancouver. After doing my research, I was shocked to find out that it's Jamison from Teen Daze , who's winning over a lot of people on the Internet. This Little Chords effort isn't as dance heavy, instead reminding me of the bedroom works of Jack from Wild Nothing . You can [...]

Pat Lok is one determined MF! Determined to be awesome and with each subsequent release becomes awesomer and awesomer. With the help of On The Fruit Records, he is releasing an original track called Remember. A galactic joyride with gorgeous chordal changes and swirling synths. To get your mitts on a download of this magnum opus you're gonna have to wait until the soundcloud player hits 5000 plays so help spread the love and share with fellow music lovers! ++++++++++ Pat Lok Links: Pat Lok on SoundCloud Pat Lok on twitter [...]

Nardwuar has solidified himself as an Austin, TX legend with the amount of sentimental interviews he has conducted on site. Why is Bronson still hanging with Riff Raff ? I was very excited to learn that Bronson doesn't eat any salad from a bag because "the Mexicans remove the vegetation from the earth and they are mad at the Americans....so they wipe the salad on their assholes." A$AP Rocky vs. Nardwuar
Vancouver's Hey Ocean! play the Seahorse tonight (with Aidan Knight), and if you're looking to rock out with a cute band you could fill your boots at this show I'm thinking. Just look at this video for Big Blue Wave off their last EP: balloons, kids, young love, happy music times and Shad quietly reading a book - all very cute and/or enjoyable things really. The song's a catchy, radio-ready rocker too, so I'm thinking the folks make it out tonight are in for a good time.

Photo by Tommy Chase Lucas Because I've been listening to her so much, I should mention this newish album by Grimes called Visions ( Amazon ). It's quite good. Her earlier albums were a bit over my head. I love this anecdote from Wikipedia : In 2009, Boucher and her then-boyfriend from Tennessee constructed a 20-foot houseboat, named the "Velvet Glove Cast in Iron," with the intention to sail it down the Mississippi River from Minneapolis to New Orleans. The cargo included chickens, a typewriter, 20 pounds [...]

"We are a folk band from Vancouver". Or so reads Wake Owl's facebook page. Their bandcamp tells a different story. All songs are written and performed by Colyn Cameron, with help from a number of guest musicians. These solo projects cum bands, have been in abundance of late. King Charles, Davids Lyre, Bastille and Twin Brother all spring to mind. They're a grammatical nightmare to write about, is it he or they? Thankfully they're a pleasure to listen to. Wake Owls debut EP is "Wild Country". It's a loose hybrid between Ben Howard and the Bon Iver of [...]

If we're being honest, most of the '90s should be stricken from the record with one of those Men In Black memory removal devices... including Men in Black . Cross Colors, Hypercolor, Chumbawamba and the Bronson Pinchot/Jonathon Lipnicki vehicle, Meego ? Just a few of the endless cultural failures we were forced to endure. What we can be proud of however, is the guitar rock that defined indie rock and college radio. Our anthems were gritty, loud, heartfelt and songs that sounded fantastic 20 years ago still sound great today. More importantly, unlike [...]

Hey, going to SXSW?!?!?! Well we're not, so skip the taco talk Chauncey. But we can still party on this Tuesday afternoon like we're heading down south, with the assistance of new Sweatshop Union project Leisure Gang . This self-titled single is, like everything SU has done the last couple years, rather raucous and enjoyable, so keep your ear to the ground for the Gang's debut EP next month. Or catch them at SXSW...I guess...if you're into that kind of thing. MP3:: Leisure Gang - Leisure Gang [...]
Babe Rainbow Set Loose (Soft Riot's Manhunter Version) Much digital ink has been spilled (deservedly so) on the works of Babe Rainbow (Cameron Reed), the bitingly funny and hyper-talented musician and producer (who, among other things, was involved in the creation of the terrific Shit Harper Did website ), but less-so about the man at the helm of Soft Riot [...]

mp3: Teen Daze - Treten Teen Daze will release his first proper full-length All of Us, Together on May 22 via Lefse Records . "Treten" is the expansive opening track from the album, an instrumental ride through lush synths and a propulsive beat that is instantly engaging. You can really hear how he has matured as an electronic artist since 20102s Four More Years . Both his live sets and his continued prolific output have steadily evolved, and anyone who has met him can [...]
Posted in General Clickable If you google the words 'humans' and 'traps' you get some pretty odd results, but hopefully you're here to read about the Vancouver band Humans and their new EP Traps and not something else. Humans have graced this site before in the form of a Weekend Tunage slot during the summer, that was a while [...]

This music from Vancouver based Ruffled Feathers is a little too catchy for Songs:Illinois. But if that's the only complaint I can register that's pretty good, right? Besides lead vocals by Gina Loes, one of the key elements the band uses is an assortment of instruments to create a layered and unsubtle type of indie folk. I'm a sucker for trumpet in my music and both songs below from the forthcoming debut lp Oracles delivers that in spades. You can preorder the new record here . [...]
For me Elias ' 2010 album, Lasting Distraction , is one of the best albums to come out of Vancouver's vibrant Indie music scene. My first encounter with Elias was watching them as an opening act; that night they stole the show. I remember the stunned silence after the song, "All We Want", then the cheering. It might just be my imagination , but I recall everyone leaving that night carrying an Elias album. Elias [...]

e.d.g.e. - The First 48 (prod. by The Jake) I told you about e.d.g.e. recently, when I shared his collaboration with young MC Ackurate and it seems that the Vancouver native is definitely back on tracks, releasing many tracks with different artists on a weekly (daily??) basis. Among all the projects e.d.g.e. is working on, there is the Destroy & Rebuild mixtape, which will be released by TheMadBloggers.com, the9elements.com and FlyDefinition.com. The first extract is the amazing The First 48 , that showcases e.d.g.e.'s world-renowned "penwork", as well as The Jake incredible production. I'm [...]

When I looked at U-Tern's latest, "Da Da Daa Daa," I thought it was going to be joke just based off the name. Well, this is no joke and "Da Da Daa Daa" is one soothing hypnotic electro piece with a bit of the dubstep thrown in ever so slightly... if you can throw in dubstep slightly. This is certainly a Tern in a different direction that I'm down for. If you're more of a disco chick/dude, check out his edit of Stevie Wonder's "Do I Do." U-Tern [...]
