Our Cinco de Mayo rocked with some of the albums below, yet while you see Keane and Silversun Pickups, they weren't the only artists requested to keep spinning. Nope, S. Carey somehow stole the show, which makes you wonder when you might start to hear requests on the radio. The artist off of Jagjaguwar Records with the half name S. Carey launches his Hoyas EP just in time for people to get to know him. For those than know Bon Iver, he's the drummer of Bon Iver, Sean Carey, and you've known he's talented. [...]

The year started off with non-stop week-after-week of great releases. However, for the first time since the beginning of 2011, the new releases feel a little lackluster. This isn't to say that there aren't some great albums to kick March off, just not quite as many as other weeks. It may just be the lack of name power that prevents this week's batch of albums from feeling quite so anticipated. For instance, Vanity Theft , a relative unknown, gives us a surprisingly spectacular album with Get What You Came For (pictured at left). Other up-and-comers such as [...]
Kind of a roller coaster of a week, huh? I mean, The White Stripes broke up, yet you have a chance to win Bonnaroo tickets . And the Super Bowl is Sunday, but musically it doesn't offer anything to look forward to. I'm not sure where our Friday Mixtape fits in, but I do know you'll likely be more glad than sad over this week's offering. Included are the week's best singles and remixes, plus hand-picked covers from our friends at Cover Me . NEW Singles: "People's Partay" by [...]
It's a simple enough video with a lo-fi feel, but Vanity Theft 's "Anatomy" works. The all-girl act from Ohio still put their best foot forward. the song comes from Get What You Came For , which is out now digitally, but arrives in physical form on March 1. Also be sure to check out the band on tour starting tonight with a show at the Knitting Factory in New York City (full schedule below). Vanity Theft tour dates: 2/2 - New York, NY - The Knitting Factory [...]

…Vanity Theft’s debut full-length, Post Script, Pace Yourself, was one of our favorite local releases of 2008. So, we were naturally stoked in 2010 to see Alicia Grodecki (vocals, keyboards), Brittany Hill (vocals, guitar), Elyse Driskill (drums, vocals) and latest addition Lalaine (bass, vocals) were touring nationally and actually starting to generate a buzz… …when the [...]
Whether it’s in conversation or in a review, describing a band to another person is an awkward affair, especially when operating under the assumption that the subject is a complete mystery to the audience. The possibilities are seemingly endless. Compare the artist to other acts? Invent a ridiculously hyphenated new genre? Stick with genre pigeonholing? Lofty metaphors? Sometimes a band or their press agent will make a reviewer’s job easier by offering a description of their own sound for the benefit of the uninitiated. According to the bio page of Vanity Theft , the Dayton quartet has a sound [...]
...If you follow music blogs, a lot of folks will tell you 2010 was a pretty good year for independent and indie-style rock. And it was. You had to wade through a lot of dreck from the majors AND the indies, but there were indeed some good releases last year. Let’s hope 2011 is even [...]
On February 1, Vanity Theft is digitally issuing debut album Get What You Came For (the physical release is out March 1 via Vigilante/Adamant), then hitting the road for an extensive North American tour with Hunter Valentine. The Dayton, Ohio, band is following up October's Anatomy EP, whose title track you can download here. Vanity Theft had [...]

We could try to come up with our own way of describing rising indie girl band Vanity Theft , but really, the post-riot-grrl foursome said it best themselves: "We may have vaginas, but we're not pussies." Well, then. Now that we've got that covered...
I live in a very music oriented world, a world which doesn't necessarily require looking at the calendar too often. It is for this very reason that I heavily rely on the new installment of Le Miel du Mois to usher in a new month and keep me grounded. Yesterday however, Steph was so caught up that she couldn't send me the song list and my whole equilibrium was immediately thrown off. I went into a weird time warp between November and December and needless to say there was no new mixtape to help me get through it. Today, I woke up with [...]
