Transparencies by Kevin Hufnagel Guitarist Kevin Hufnagel is best known for his contributions to the world of modern metal through acts like Gorguts, Dysrhythmia, While Heaven Never Slept, and more. But underneath all of these extreme sounds has been thriving passion for ambient music and soundscapes. This latest release isn't Kevin's first foray into this genre, and it sounds like it. I say that because the textures on this album are pretty gripping and affecting, which is a feeling I rarely get from this style of music-well, outside of producers like Tim Hecker, sure. [...]

VAST , aka Visual Audio Sensory Theater, will be issuing their 1998 debut self-titled album on vinyl for the very first time! The album will be released as a double 150 gram LP, and each copy will be autographed by the VAST's sole member, Jon Crosby. Pre-orders are currently available for $45 from the VAST site . If that sounds expensive, the price will jump to $75 after the preorder period, so we'd jump on this one soon if you're interested. Check out a live version of the album track "Touched" below!

VAST: Free [ Purchase ] This was the first song that came to mind when I thought of celebrations of freedom because to me it's quintessential to the topic. This song is an anthemic fist pump about liberation by an industrial band called VAST (which supposedly stands for Visual Audio Sensory Theater) whose frontman, Jon Crosby, is also the songwriter. This particular album "Music for People" was released in 2000 which was at the boom of the rap/metal craze which, as a fan of sappy female singer-songwriters, embittered my heart. [...]

Did you know that NASA found water on the moon? And not just a drop, but gallons of the stuff? Nope, me neither. Isn't this mass ignorance a bit... odd? Even a Luddite like me knows that water=life, and yet the papers here are more concerned with which which fame-lusting societal leech will eat kangaroo testicles on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! (I've got my fingers crossed for George Hamilton, who appears to have the appearance of a slightly melted George Hamilton android). So in times where fame [...]

For the past decade, it's been interesting to see the evolution of a band created from one man and his emotions and experiences. This evolution has come at the cost of the happiness of one Jon Crosby, the man behind the moniker "VAST". In that time the music has taken on a tone of self-hate and self-destruction, possibly due to the difficulties of his personal life, or with regards to gaining the rights of his past musical works. Whatever the reason may be, since the release of his album "Turquoise & Crimson", the music has been gradually losing the [...]

Image From Here Well, you can't call me on this one, because I did say, in a previous post, that I may throw in a personal post or two in-between other stuff.... The past few weeks have been ok since I have immersed myself in the music. But, even then, those past days have been a struggle. I sleep a lot and spend my waking hours on the computer. That is my life right now. And has been for quite awhile now. Docs are continually trying new meds on me and they have [...]

Image From Here You never really wanted me there. I tried, so hard, I wanted to be there with you. But, I just couldn't do it. And you went on your merry way, doing what you do best. You are a socialite, a debutante - someone who has a ton of friends. You are not a lonely person. I really needed you too. But, you didn't care whether I showed up or not. You had too many other distractions, too many other people to be with. There was never any concern from you about my [...]

Touched by Vast When I think of summer I think of BB Q's and the Beach, especially all the fun in the sun associated with hanging out on a nice summer day on the sand. I grew up spending most of my summer at Southern California beaches. Walking on the sand, body surfing, Frisbee, or just listening to music while laying on the beach towel and check out the surf and all the action. Music and surfing just seem to go hand in hand. I love some of the YOUTUBE videos that mix big wave surfing with great [...]
Finally, the new VAST - Me and You - is here, and as expected, it's a really nice album And I don't know what you need But I know It's not me ( You Should Have Known I'd Leave by VAST ) Posted in cherry treats, music, obsessions are made to be shared

[Birthday shouts to Noel Gallagher of Oasis and Tim Burgess of the Charlatans ...] Today: Where to start this evening's bulging schedule except with Animal Collective ? Having hit the Troubadour and the Music Box @ Fonda earlier in the year, the critical darlings now sell out the Wiltern. ... The buzziest shows of the night seem to be the Passion Pit / Harlem Shakes / Cale Parks triad at the Echoplex [that's Lexy Benaim of the Harlem Shakes, pictured, performing at SXSW] and [...]
Gay Beast kick off tour, loads of Soundset videos & Mark Olson and Gary Louris set to play Glastonbury.
St. Paul and Minneapolis are two very different cities. Every time I walk the streets of downtown St. Paul I'm reminded of this by the numerous small parks and public places, where one can sit beneath a tree and watch people pass at a pace slower than that of Minneapolitans. The nightlife too is very [...]
Head on down to Station 4 Monday night to to catch VAST, a band who really has me nostalgiating for old school Stabbing Westward. They'll be joined by local rockers Stellar Vector, along with Bella Koshka and Morosity. Need an audio preview? Of course you do. Author insert a music with WS Audio Player(Download) [...]
Even een variatie in de retrospecs, hier een paar liedjes onder elkaar van de ietwat oude garde van film soundtracks. Gladiator . Hans Zimmer ft Lisa Gerrard - Now we are free . Leuk om te weten is dat de vrouw die je hoort zingen improviseert op wat ze hoort, muziek wordt op deze manier echt een taal en communiceert op deze manier een gevoel. In dit geval een gevoel van hoop (denk ik). Click here to view the embedded video. [...]

Perception Whore Cosmonaut From the sun baked streets of Los Angeles come one of the most seemingly bitter bands I've seen in a while. I guess it's not that uncommon for a place notorious for at least twice as much failure as success to breed such a tortured and pensive musical force. The visions invoked through the Geiger-esque biomechanical artwork of Designer Codes come to life throughout the album. It plays partly like a gothy Depeche Mode album that must have been destroyed in a fire before it [...]
Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. I've always been intrigued by the Seven Deadlies, and thought, hey... wouldn't it be fun if OK, First off 1. Lust Sexuality by k.d. lang Come on, come on Kiss away the ones who say The lust you feel is wrong This is just *the* sexiest song, for me. Her voice, the lyrics, the attitude, all of it. [...]

VAST was a pretty big deal for a minute in the late '90s in the wake of the heavy industrial rock boom. Nine Inch Nails' bursting popularity in the middle of the decade ushered in a record label feasting-fest on a hundred Sister Machine Guns, Gravity Killses, and Filters. VAST, aka 13-year old Jon Crosby, was the beneficiary of a nice-little major label bidding war after building a name for himself with his guitar chops and home-recorded demos which received some local radio airplay. A band was hastily assembled around Crosby after he decided to sign with Elektra, and his [...]
