VAST once stood for Visual Audio Sensory Theater. Maybe it still does, but the theater turned into a little studio in the Southwest judging from the sound of April, Jon Crosby & Co.'s latest release, which appears to be from 2Blossom Records. A band that once slammed from the rafters with progressive pop programming, choir samples, and intensely artsy loud-rock is now as simple as the four or five guys you might find playing at the local bar on the weekends. Well, they're that simple in terms of numbers and method. VAST started out at the top in [...]

I've really been diggin these guys since I picked up their new release, entitled April. Vast offers complex, beautiful songs driven by strong melodies and powerful vocals provided by front man Jon Crosby. April, released in October on Crosby's own label, 2blossoms Records and Media is extremely well produced and sucks you in on the first listen. Vast will be setting out on a US tour on November 30th, with a stop in Baltimore on February 16th at the 8x10 . Should be a good time. Tix [...]
Are you ready? What? I just learned that good writing doesn't really have to be good writing. That is, you can blather about in a random nonsensical way and guess what? A perfect example is this stuff here . Ah, yeah random musings about just about everything with tons of parenthetical crap (()) scattered about in oh so random ways. Ha! So, then I am off, I am a writer now! They are the current big hype and they are The Horrors . Hell of a band name if I will say [...]

It was a dark and stormy night in Columbus...no, not really. Sorry, it was cool and gray tonight for VAST's headlining show tonight at Little Brothers. The first opener was a band from southern California, Mardo. When they first took the stage, all I could see was the hair. The lead guitarist had it straight and to his shoulders, the keyboard player had a massive 'fro that Shaft would've been proud of, and the lead singer and drummer shared the same 70's rockstar curls (we found out later that they were the Mardo brothers, [...]

In preparation for the headlining show at Little Brothers this week (which I'll be selflessly covering for all of you here at ThaBombShelter on Thursday the 31st), I thought it would be fitting to feature this superb sophomore album from VAST (that's Visual Audio Sensory Theater for all those who were unaware). The main man, Jon Crosby (son of David Crosby) is certainly the eye of the storm that is VAST. Since the release of "Music for People" the band has become a bit of a revolving door of musicians, but Crosby has successfully kept his [...]
