Eating Dicks has been our go-to unfunny joke since Patrick and Paul bailed on a night of drinking in favor of hamburgers and sleep. How much Dicks can they eat? Five. They eat five Dicks between the two of them. Seattle was awesome. Weird show at the Vera project, but AWESOME bands. Strong Killings have incredible energy and bring it hard. Ships are, in addition to prolific drinkers, rock solid dudes, and a fantastic band. Such pop hooks! We drink too much, and have adventures of a questionable variety which I'll not discuss here. [...]

![Velella Velella: Live at Capitol Hill Block Party [2008.07.26]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1685828_lg.jpg)
Cassie was insistent I catch Velella Velella . Seriously, she said. I think you'll really dig them. We were hanging out front of King Cobra, a key Capitol Hill Block Party stage a few doors from Comet Tavern. I'm sold, I thought. Sounds good to me. As the band set up on stage I noted a few items... One: There were four or five keyboards. So many, in fact, that the final one wouldn't fit lined up next [...]

. Spokane resident, Stones Throw alum and all around party-rawker James Pants will be tearing down the house at Nectar this Saturday Dec. 13th . If you were in attendance for his set during the Solstice you recall just how live of a show he can put on. He is one uber talented dude and truly something to witness up close and in person. . Honestly tho, I am even more pumped to see [...]
I did intend to catch more than four bands at this year's Cap Hill Block Party, but after 4-5 hours of insanity I felt I'd experienced enough BP action to feel more than fulfilled. It's true, each of the bands I saw were fantastic and I definitely got plenty utility out of the 20 bones spent on my ticket. I simply bailed early on Saturday evening (around 9:30, eek) because I yearned to regain my small hemisphere of personal space that had been suffocated for 4+ hours. Too many tickets sold? This is an [...]

This from HUSH, my label. Has a new P Bear jamm: "Wii Oui". We are delighted to share this party favor with you: DECA: A HUSH 10th Anniversary Compilation . The majority of its 28 tracks (tracklist below) are previously unreleased, and it features a 36 page pdf booklet. One note: Should you opt for the convenient, high quality zip download you'll find you're given an opportunity to pay an amount of [...]

You might have noticed Butter Team doesn't preview a ton of local events - this is mainly due to laziness, lack of interest in being another calendar, and because we only preview shows we are actually planning on attending. Two this week you should know about - let us know what's missing. Ottobar hosts a night of indie blog classics this Tuesday with Ra Ra Riot and The Little Ones - this is definitely a strong enough lineup to motivate. Need another reason? Every Friday, we deliver a different song from a local performer as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today's featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Alex Boom Selector by Velella Velella from the 2007 Flight Cub EP on Hush . Velella Velella - Alex Boom Selector ( MP3 ) Velella Velella is a quartet out of Seattle that aims to please with guitar, bass, and a plethora of keys, organs and synthesizers. Drawing from people [...]
Velella Velella "Flight Cub" - Velella Velella are the musical spawn of Warp, Mo Wax, and Quannum; a live funk band who arrive at the genre via a generation of crate-digging electronic and hip hop musicians sampling, interpolating, and mimicking the grooves of old records. Rather than freak out about authenticity, the band carries on with the new aesthetic, and rightfully so -- the reason any of us ever cared about the likes of DJ Shadow, Squarepusher, Luke Vibert et al in the first place was that there was a particular sound to those records that was [...]

Velella Velella "Brass Ass" - Velella Velella was pitched to me by my friend as an "indie Funkadelic," but that's not quite right --their slick grooves actually sound more like a live band hell bent on simulating the polyglot funk compositions of artists such as DJ Shadow, Luke Vibert, Daft Punk, and Prefuse 73. "Brass Ass" leans heavily on the after-midnight mood of DJ Shadow's Entroducing , but as with all of the tracks on Velella Vellela's MySpace page, it's not so much a direct homage as much as the product of musicians who very [...]
