![[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Ducky](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3731004_lg.jpg)
Tweet Man, I wish I went to a school where I could spend a year knocking out a CD - I don't just mean in my spare time, but as an actual class project. That was the experience of Ducky , or Morgan Neiman as she was presumably known at the time. She's now based in New York, but was born and raised amidst the eclectic electro scene of San Francisco. That school project - undertaken when she was just thirteen - provided her with [...]
![[Introducing] – Amycanbe](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3539486_lg.jpg)
Tweet Until recently I could count the number of modern Italian bands I knew on one finger - that would be Lacuna Coil, which is to say I didn't need any fingers whatsoever to tally up the number of Italian bands I liked. So I wasn't sure what to expect when Amycanbe arrived in the inbox. I was impressed. Started in 2002, their debut album "Being A Grown-Up Sure Is Complicated" got a UK release back in 2007, accompanied by touring and [...]

When the members of Venus Hum started scattering to the four winds a couple years ago (the band is now split between Nashville, Cincinnati and New York), I figured it was probably the beginning of the end for my favorite electronic popsters. Luckily it appears that my fears were unfounded. The band is currently writing and recording songs for a "super secret project," and while the project might be covert enough that they can't tell us what it is, it's not keeping them from blogging [...]
Massachusetts - The Bee Gees This post of my Songs of the Fifty States series qualifies as the least 'countrified', starting right from the top with The Bee Gees and a song that showcases their knack for songwriting pre- squeaking, squawking disco era (1967 to be precise, and their first UK Number 1). Perhaps here I have succumbed and posted the most patent Massachusetts-related track, but it's a goodie and, to be honest, I didn't really bother searching much further here! The only other track... The three member band known as Venus Hum formed in Nashville in 1999 and have previously opened for Stereolab back in 2002. They combine synth-pop with rock and electronica to great effect. If you like electronic pop with great vocals then Venus Hum is for you, so check'em at their myspace page. [ download ]
Venus Hum's trippy dream pop extravaganza Big Beautiful Sky was one of my favourite albums of 2003 and is still attached to many a memory. Their latest release, The Colors In The Wheel, is a slight... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**

For the past few years, Venus Hum have made a habit of putting on a special Christmas show every December. It shouldn't come as a surprise that they're big on the holidays; their second ever release was the Switched On Christmas EP (currently available on iTunes), a fun collection of electro-pop takes on several seasonal classics. This year's outing will feature The Bees as their special guest, and according to [...]
Venus Hum, purveyors of modern synthpop, have been hit or miss for me in the past, but their new album, The Colors in the Wheel, gets high marks for its edgy approach. Thanks to Comfort reader Nicole for pointing this...
Venus Hum - The Colors In The Wheel Venus Hum celebrated the release of their third full length album with a show Friday nite at the Mercy Lounge here in Nashville. For a band where two-thirds of the members are trapped behind banks of synthesizers, computers, and other miscellaneous electronic gadgetry, I'm always amazed at how good their shows are. Part of that is due to making up for their lack of ability to move with an always impressive visual [...]

Submitted for your approval: a conversation. The Sean Show: Holy shit! 22 hits on Manhunt in one day! WTF! Jedi Master of Manhunt : Now that you're popular, what're you gonna do about it? TSS: ... TSS: I hadn't thought that far ahead. JMoM: You better think quick. Nobody likes a tease, Sean. It's nice to be wanted, even if I'm not really wanting back. My rational mind tells me that this sort of validation [...]
I've totally been digging the new Venus Hum album, The Colors In The Wheel , and when I found out I'd be spending the weekend in Nashville, immediately checked to see if I'd be able to see them in their hometown. And sonofagun if they aren't playing the night before my arrival instead! In the meantime, I'll make due with this trio of of YouTubers and a download that the band has posted: the excellent Pink Champagne Music Video: [...]
Venus Hum The Colors in the Wheel Label: Mono-fi/Nettwerk Records In stores: July 25, 2006 With the goal of making a synthesizer free album (opening track "Turn Me Around" is completely acoustic guitar), Venus Hum , the trip-hop trio from Nashville, gave themselves an admirable task after a three year separation caused by their 2003 debut's success. But it's not all acoustic downer crap, either. Throughout The Colors in the Wheel , Annette Strean's vocals are enhanced - but never overshadowed [...]
