[Photos by acidjack] Rubblebucket is a Brooklyn-by-way-of-Vermont band that is building a fan base the old-fashioned way: outstanding live shows and the positive word of mouth that results. With a touring schedule that has blanketed the eastern seaboard and made them regulars in their home region, the band has come by every new fan and every new gig as honestly as possible. That's why, although you may have never heard of them, they sold out the Bowery Ballroom handily on a Saturday night. They may have gotten their start on the college music circuit, [...]

Fresh of their last tour, the rag tag group of Vermonters, Chamberlin , is back with a new holiday single "In the Bleak Midwinter." It's a traditional Christmas hymn that keyboardist Eric Maier said was "arranged to reflect the classical, choral tradition with a modern, electronic edge," a description that does the song way more justice than I could. Much like their song, "Sixty Days", the song centers on extensive vocal harmonies backed by a simple grand piano. It's another tune to come out of their Goshen, VT cabin and I think the population of 200 well [...]

Still surprised I haven't gotten into Kahlifa more. I guess it's just that need a remix situation and that remix is this. Whole-Z brings out Khalifa's steady rap and vocal highs with synths that touch just right. Just shows the range Whole-Z puts on his remixes compared to his Edward Sharpe remix . Wiz Khalifa - That Plane (Whole-Z Remix) BONUS: Limp Bizkit - Nookie (Whole-Z Remix) [...]

I was going through our submissions and came across this video by Vermont artist Vader the Villin. When the music started, I was easily drawn in because of that mysterious and druggy feel that can be associated with The Weeknd, a sound that I love. On top of that, this video is a piece of art with the reverse-play, something that it extremely hard to pull off. Enjoy this video, and keep the submissions coming! At the risk of sharing a song that some people might be tiring off (although it hasn't really reached an over-saturation level for me personally), I'm going to share the cover that Chamberlin did of Foster the People's smash hit, Pumped Up Kicks . Chamberlin recorded the cover after fans voted for its inclusion in the group's covers EP. The band is teaming up with Vermont Coffee to offer the proceeds of the EP's sales to the flood victims of Hurricane Irene in Vermont and in their community. You can purchase it at their website . "There is a surprisingly high ratio of Vermonters employed at Blue Man Group , particularly in the cast of Blue Men (three in NYC). When news of Tropical Storm Irene's devastating effect on our homestate, we wanted to rally together and see what we could do to help. We called our sympathetic and wildly talented friends and with the wonderful support of the Brooklyn Bowl put together a night of music, art and, deliciously, maple syrup. The night will include live music by Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls, long-time friend and artistic collaborator [...]

I was lucky enough to score a pair of tickets to Phish's sold-out Flood Relief Benefit show in their home state of Vermont last week. Besides being the closest the band has played to their old home town of Burlington (where they got their start in the mid-802s), this was an event that captured the headlines for a number of reasons, mainly the huge amount of money ( over $1.2 million ) it raised for the area. While most press seemed to praise the efforts of the band, there was one blog that stuck out to me [...]

Phish has just posted a note on their official website thanking dozens of companies that helped them throw Wednesday's benefit for Vermont Flood Relief Efforts and also mentioned that the show in Essex Junction raised in excess of $1.2 million (!!) for the cause. Keep in mind that it will take years to rebuild everything that was damaged by the remnants of Hurricane Irene, so individuals can still donate to The Waterwheel Foundation . Be sure to specify that you would like your contribution [...]

Phish did it. In a triumphant return to their beloved home state, for a show that was announced a scant two weeks prior, everything went off without a hitch. Bookended by two days of pouring rain, Wednesday was magically perfect. Bright sunny skies and temperatures in the high-70's gave way to a pristine evening with a full moon glowing down on 10,000 loyal fans happy to be there and absolutely no hint that Autumn is knocking on the door. Just as the concerns about a nightmare at the box office at the Flynn were never [...]

TweetSo I'm headed up north to good old Burlington, Vermont on Wednesday. The rumors came true this time and the boys decided to squeeze in one more show for the year as they have hinted that they will be going on an extensive break after this long summer of touring. This show will benefit the [...]
As expected, LivePhish.com will webcast Wednesday's Phish concert live from Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction. This show is a fundraiser to benefit victims of the flooding in Vermont. Head over to LivePhish.com and plop down $19.99 to pre-order as Couch Tour 2011 rolls on.

Phish has a long history of giving back to not only the communities that they play in, but also to causes that are near and dear to many a fan's heart. Though full blown benefit shows are few and far between, Phish philanthropy is well known. While history dictates that you will have about as much success predicting winning lottery numbers as you will a Phish setlist, it is nonetheless interesting to look back at previous benefit shows. Regardless of what goes down next week at the Champlain Valley Exposition, it is clear that the fans are in for a [...]

Here's to that deepest, most fleeting of pleasures - the Vermont fall. Yesterday there was that first September chill in the air. It's inevitable in New England - the only question is when, not if, it will come. It always sends my thoughts back to childhood - playing soccer, carving pumpkins... all the real and imagined nostalgia the limbic system can conjure. Here are some tracks, old and new, I thought of during that first crisp breeze: The last song on Bon Iver's recently released self-titled album, "Beth / Rest," was often cited by fans as the least [...]
