Wondering what tunes we've been force-feeding our neighbors over the past week? Have a listen to latest installation of Friday Favorites, where we post the songs we can't get enough of. Enjoi. Josh Bennett Armin van Buuren feat. Laura Jansen - Sound Of The Drums (Album Version) [Armada] There are several tracks that I can't get enough of on Armin van Buuren's new Intense album, but Armin's new collaboration with [...]
When it comes to deep, dark and spheric soundscapes, of course Bristol's Seb Gainsborough aka Vessel is still the chap to turn to. His 2012 debut Order of Noise on zeitgeist-y underground institution Tri Angle Records was a dense and atmospheric trip, combining ambient, dub, disco and house in a very smart way. And it's exactly this breathtaking shadowy aesthetic that Vessel applies on Hyetal 's "Northwest Passage" , a track off the fellow Bristolian producer's forthcoming full-length Modern Worship . For his reinterpretation, Vessel pitched down beat and vocals and [...]

Having nurtured my musical tastes on a diet of industrial classics like Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle, I always get a little thrill when records like these are released. In fact, my inner 16 year-old can barely contain himself at the sound of drop forges and rumbling repetitive techno. So you can imagine my delight when I heard Vessel 's 'Cassion Edit' of Hyetal 's 'Northwest Passage', a bleak and thundering five minutes that could easily have been produced in 19702s Sheffield by some rather foppish-looking art students. Difficult to [...]

Cassion, taking Hyetal's explosive and enchanting off-key " Northwest Passage ," has morphed it into a daunting and wrecking industrial turnstile. Taking the original vocals from Gwilym Gold into a transfixed nightmare, Cassion's edit seeks to completely render the heart of the original open and waning. See for yourself below.
If you want to get a bit dark of a Friday morning then look no further than Vessel's haunting, industrial refix of Hyetal's Northwest Passage, which is part of an album of the same name. Mind not to get your soft bones crushed under the weight of this one:

Gaaaahh!
A little bit ago, we posted a very pretty dance track from Hyetal's new Modern Worship album, featuring, among other subtle things, lightly fluttering windchimes and some very amniotic-sounding vocals from British singer Gwilym Gold. ... read more

There seems to be a culture within the world of experimental electronic music, (a stupidly vague term I know), to take tracks down off the Internet within hours of them going live. Hopefully this wont be the fate of Vessel’s, El Perro Del Mar - Hold Off The Dawn remix. This track is fucking NASTY. Scattered, druggy and wandering, the cut manages to always hold a demonic sort of threat that makes for one uncomfortable listen. In a good way, a really good way.

Last week El Perro Del Mar released her chilling 3rd single “I Was A Boy” & this morning a music video, a live take of the song directed by Swedish directors Belle & Light. The filmmaking duo who pride themselves on finding innovative ways of capturing “the live moment” place Sarah Assbring (otherwise known as El Perro Del Mar) against a stark background, letting her lyrics + delivery fill the spotlight. Of the poignant song, Sarah shares, “As a kid I was a tomboy for a long time. It didn’t really occur [...]

FUCK. Vesse l sure can create the most damaged sounding music when he wants to. This new track, Extra Cerebral Sex War , is a rather fitting way to describe the track. Epic and destroyed in scale, yet somehow graceful and sensual in its outcome. Fantastic.

I want to stand right in the center of this video for a long while. Dum vivimus vivamus . Scotland's Admiral Fallow first charmed me two years ago with this singalong cover (which I still listen to on a very regular basis), and they have a wonderful new record out called Tree Bursts In Snow (Nettwerk Records). Thanks to reader Laurie for bringing [...]
I'm really not sure how I missed this record. It came out on Domino Records back in 2009, but my friend Brooks just put me up on it yesterday. This whole record is quite spectacular. Think of it as a more instrumental Son Lux , if you will. Check out the whole record. It's called Insides.

Exactly one year and one day has passed since I, totem, published my very first year-end list for Salacious. After that successful go at a top 50 albums list, it's about time I followed it up with a fresh list for 2012 wouldn't you say? Now, I know it's somewhat late for a year-end list (as per blog standards) but I sicnerely hope you can bear with me for just one more....pwetty pwease? I promise I will make it worth your while! Now, a few notes before we begin. I've shortened my list from a top 50 albums [...]
Zo'n debuutplaat waar elke zichzelf respecterende internationale muziekblog een recensie van heeft. Ondanks dat er nul radiohits opstaan. Toch betekent Order of Noise iets. Het is een ontbrekend puzzelstukje. Ergens tussen de triphop, de industrial en de techno bestaat er...

You probably haven't heard much about Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun or their band, twenty | one | pilots , just yet. The hype around this duo is expected to build into a tsunami after their major label release of Vessel , the third album. The Columbus duo's past releases mixed rap vocals with some elements of synth-pop and, at times, new wave melodies. Enhanced by very powerful live performances, twenty | one | pilots started building a strong fan base who contributed to their sold out shows and prominence in [...]
