There's a lot to be inferred about Pure Bathing Culture 's sound just from the album cover of their upcoming full-length, Moon Tides . The expanding, seemingly infinite landscape is covered with an Instagram-like filter; similarly, the duo make uplifting dream pop that's washed over in reverb, creating an enveloping haze. Like its title seems to indicate, the track marches along to the swing of its pendulum, here very present drum machine. Around it there's a delicate dance of guitars, and lead singer Sarah Versprille's airy vocals. Contrary [...]

Following up their 2012 self-titled debut, Danielle Hindman and Sarah Versprille (of Vetiver ), released the gloriously polished and atomically sweet "Pendulum" from Pure Bathing Culture's upcoming Moon Tides . The fantastic single will be the lead track on the new LP, which is slated for release August 19 in the UK and August 20 through the Brooklyn-based Partisan Records . Stream/download the single below.

Vetiver-offshoot Pure Bathing Culture will follow-up their 2012 self-titled EP this summer with their debut full-length Moon Tides . Its first single, the album lead-off, "Pendulum" sets us up for what should surely be an album of sumptuous indie pop, the track thick and gleaming. Check it out below. Read More...

Portland's Pure Bathing Culture follow up one of our favorite releases of 2012 with the swaying, smoldering lead single / opening track from their lovely forthcoming debut LP, Moon Tides . The wistful " Pendulum " sets the record's emotional tone and firmly establishes that these two are no longer a Vetiver side-project, as Sarah Versprille 's warmly glowing voice and disarming way with words never fail to tug at our heartstrings. Moon Tides is out on [...]

In a period where some artists are looking for the new, the cool and the hype, some others go back to the classics. Matthew E. White has come out of the blue with Big Inner , a psychedelic New Weird America album, that rediscovers the roots of American music. The spiritual and southern vibes of Big Inner can be easily traced back: White was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, the son of Christian missionaries. The album, recorded in the [...]

If you happen to catch Vetiver and Howlin’ Rain at a show together, you have a 50/50 chance of taking a nap and/or enjoying a face melt.

On a soggy San Francisco eve, cohorts of folkies donning thick flannels and sturdy eyewear surveyed Cafe Du Nord's Mahogany bar as Vetiver plugged in for a hometown gig - the first of three SF shows to close out ‘12. Vetiver rewarded those who braved the elements with meandering, interwoven guitar lines, sprightly folk ditties, and smooth dream-pop. Opening with “Worse For Wear”, a cut from their 2011 album The Errant Charm , the SF natives showcased breezy, blithe melodies that clashed with scathing indictments of infidelity and rotting romanticism: “Tender [...]

Those who prefer a little – or, more realistically, a whole lot - of retro rock ‘n’ roll with their New Year’s Eve celebration can head on out to Café du Nord on New Year’s Eve to check out two San Francisco rock ‘n’ roll powerhouses, Vetiver and Howlin’ Rain . The show, said to be born out of a “mutual musical admiration” between the bands, will start at 9:30 and go straight on ‘til morning. If you’ve already made NYE plans, never fear – they’ve secured a three-night string of shows together at Cafe [...]
Pure Bathing Culture and Sun Airway knocked it out of the park on what this Owl calls a good night.
[Photos by acidjack] Vetiver aren't the kind of band you usually find at the top of the bill on a Friday night at Glasslands . The Williamsburg club is best known for cutting-edge young rock and wild DJ nights - all good things, but not exactly this band's style. Vetiver, on the other hand, seems at times to come from a different era, with a measured, melodic 60s-inspired sound that has more to do with Simon and Garfunkel and the Grateful Dead than what's is trending in Brooklyn right now. They are a grown-up [...]

Pure Bathing Culture is a New York-based duo made up of a couple of Vetiver members, and we already posted their song " Gainesville ." In the deeply weird new video for their song "Ivory Coast," singer Sarah Versprille attempts to raise a blue alien beauty while a hologram shark follows her around. It's oddly touching. Sean Pecknold , the brother of lead Fleet Fox Robin, directs. Watch it below. Read More...
