Somewhere along the game of telephone that is asynchronous interview questionnaires--all of this is a verbose way of saying how we send out our "Getting Sassy with..." questions--half of Via Tania's interview got lost and was held captive by the monsters that live in the series of tubes that make up the Internet. So consider these remaining remarks from Via Tania a sort of amendment to the original interview, or maybe just a new take altogether. If I wasn't doing music I would be: An art director [...]
We here around THE CULTURE OF ME were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines. And while those titles are long gone, the sentiment of how they covered the culture industries has indeed left its mark on writers and culture vultures everywhere. It is because of that influence that we are proud to present our features post, "Getting Sassy with...", wherein we bring you that much closer to your favorite bands by way of a simple Q&A session that's both painless and informative. I'm on a female singer kick today that doesn't look as though it will be stopped anytime soon. In fact, Via Tania seems to be of a similar vein to Bat For Lashes, so maybe I'm more specifically on an ethereal female singer kick. She even seems to dress like her, at least in the few stills I've seen of her. Feathers and intense eye makeup, that sort of thing. Vocally, she's certainly floating in similar circles too, as I don't think Bat For Lashes would be too far removed. Though she's a bit [...]
Born in Australia to South African parents, Tania Bowers childhood was full with diversity and dreams, often craving the unknown and inspired to pursue a musical gypsy lifestyle. As soon as she was able, Tania set on a path full of happenstance and wonder, which up until now has led this uniquely talented and equally endearing young singer songwriter to Chicago and ready to release the enchanting and haunting Moon Sweet Moon . Having relocated to Chicago she immediately set about piecing together an album under the guise of Via Tania , with producer Casey Rice [...]
The Presets - If I Know You (Tania & Jori Version) [mp3] Jori Hulkkonen and Via Tania not only remixed, but remade The Presets'... visit APC to read the full post, THX!!!

With breathy vocals, poetic lyrics and a slowed down, and oftentimes smoothed out, pace, the unique mix of downtempo and pop that is the music of Via Tania was an unexpected surprise for me. I honestly had no idea what I was in store for when I put on her latest album, Moon Sweet Moon, but by the time it was over I was in a totally different head space; chilled out, relaxed and at ease. Intrigued, I wanted to know more about Via Tania and her work. This week I caught up with her to make that happen and [...]

I've seen three awards-season-tipped movies this week (The Wrestler being the best) so as a result, two Oscar/Bafta film soundtrack songs are in the ten this week (The other eight are damn fine too): On a recent shopping trip I managed to pick up a promo of Brakes' forthcoming album. Oh boy is it a good one, displaying a tendency to genre hop from Indie to Punk and from Rock to Country but at the same time sounding chock full of confidence. Here's opener 'Two Shocks', which morphs from a [...]
Chicago's answer to Bat For Lashes? Not quite but there is a shared quality, though softer she has an angelic voice and playful art school buzz. Via Tania's new single and video "Wonder Stranger", from Moon Sweet Moon , which p4k says is "closer to Joanna Newsom than to Portishead", video directed by Michelle Ruiz. The singers uniqueness in-part comes from her gypsy upbriging, born in Australia to South African parents. peace to apc for the mp3. Via Tania - "Wonder Stranger" -mp3
Wednesday, February 4, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: Yesterday I saw that Pitchfork had an entire rundown on different artists that you can follow on Twitter. Do you guys use that service a lot? Should I try to give it a go for SOTO? It kind makes me feel old in that I just don't see the point of it. Please explain. EP time! Enjoy. : I Was A King - Norman Bleik : This Norwegian band is not one [...]
Feed subscribers : I've temporarily changed Muruch's feed to summary, so you'll need to visit the site to download mp3s and read full reviews. I'm having trouble with a few websites hotlinking my mp3s and re-posting my content. Normally I just ignore such annoyances, but this is resulting in some Google indexing issues since Muruch has moved to its own domain. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and I'll reinstate the full summary once it is corrected. Thanks! Company of Thieves - Oscar Wilde (mp3) Catchy femme pop-rock. The first [...]
To the Romans, XL means number 40. To consumers, XL means a clothing size, and potentially a diet. To Radiohead, The Raconteurs, and Beck, XL, or more specifically, XL Recordings, means home. To us, XL is just our latest Friday Mixtape, and a good one at that. As always, below you will find the week's best mix of singles, covers, and remixes, along with mp3s from a few artists you might want to check out! NEW Singles: "Demon Eyes" by The Answer "Stumble Out [...]
There is no rhyme or reason to what day these things happen on. I think we're all just going to have to accept that I'm going to put things up as the fancy strikes me, and move on from there. Since I started trying to do the music roundup on Tuesday, it's happened every day but Tuesday, and now I have so much new music to put up that I'm doing it twice in the same week. Which feels fantastic, now that I think about it. Maia Hirasawa - [...]

There's an immediate sense of whimsy and escapism in Via Tania 's track "Wonderstranger", almost certainly set out to grab your attention like the clockwork ticks within. It's a little bit on the Joanna Newsom side with the childlike vibes, but it's not so upfront that you feel like it's in the way. Also, word to the wise: if you have rad bottom eyelashes, show them off immediately like this. The Australian-born Tania (last name Bowers) has had quite an illustrious run in the music field: her first group, SPDGFH , was widely known down under [...]

There's no doubt that nearly everyone that reads this blog is reading it for the same reason: we all end up at the same shows and parties, we all have friends that walk around wearing fedoras, Puma's, rolled up jeans, and shirts with colorful drawings all over them that, for some reason, you just can't seem to make sense of, and most importantly, we all can't resist the lure of a shining, winding, grinding synth lick that's just begging for some foot stomping. But on that note, I think it's safe to say that there are definitely moments where [...]
artwork by thisisbroadcast Hey, this is Agnoek again, and I've been wanting to make a feature with only Australian songs, mainly because The Presets will be releasing their second album, Apocalypso, on April the 12th. Their second single of the album, which will be released the 12th of May by Modular, is named "This Boys In [...]
