A review of the Cowboy Junkies new album, Demons, a collection of song written by the late Vic Chesnutt
Legendary Canadian alt-rock country and folk band Cowboy Junkies released a new album of covers, 'Demons', last month in America. It's a tribute to the band's late, dear friend Vic Chesnutt, who tragically ended his life on Christmas Day 2009. But out of tragedy comes some of the most beautiful music. The Cowboy Junkies are offering up their version of 'Flirted With You All My Life', a song about love and regret. We all make choices in this life. Maybe today you'll be making an important one or two [...]

( Sad Songs & Waltzes is a recurring feature on Muzzle of Bees, where artists share their favorite sad songs. Previous contributors include Megafaun , Delta Spirit , Damien Jurado , Conrad Plymouth , Frontier Ruckus , Ben Weaver , and Roadside Graves .) I first heard Judson Clairborne when they opened one of our shows at the Cactus Club last year. Since then, I've taken to their 2010 release, Time And Temperature . I've always thought you could learn a lot about artists by [...]

A masterful exposition of a gifted storyteller and, at its essence, a riveting Cowboy Junkies album.

Cowboy Junkies ' upcoming record is called Demons and it's a tribute to the late Vic Chesnutt . It contains eleven cover songs including this one, "Wrong Piano." It's a classic country rocker, laden with fuzzed-out guitar leads and whirling organ. Equal parts joy and regret, it's a fitting tribute to a friend. Go to Exclaim! to read my list of the top ten most anticipated Canadian albums of the year. Demons comes in at number nine. Chesnutt's original version appears on the [...]

It's been nearly a year since the much-beloved singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt tragically took his own life. Now the band Cowboy Junkies is remembering the late artist with a new tribute album of his songs. It's called Demons <img src=" http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ ir?t=thedumofame-20&l=as2&o=1& a=B004I1WIRK" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" / and is due out in Feb. on the Junkies' own Latent label. Vic Chesnutt was a close friend of Cowboy Junkies and had talked about a collaboration with the group for years. Margo Timmins talked to TDOA writer Amy about their [...]

Day Three of Jam Cruise 9 continued the trend of sit-ins at nearly every set during a full night of music that followed our stop in Roatan, Honduras. Those cruisers who wanted to sleep took full advantage during the stop at port, while plenty of adventurous types partook in all sorts of excursions on the tiny island. Once 5:30PM hit, everyone returned to the boat and Easy Star All-Stars kicked off the action on the Pool Deck. The band mixed Beatles songs with Pink Floyd songs with a few of their originals mixed in for good [...]
"Wrong Piano" sets a high guitar-battle bar for next months Junkies-do-Chesnutt disc.

Cowboy Junkies will release the second album of their four-volume "The Nomad Series" on February 15, 2011. Demons is a tribute to the late, great Vic Chesnutt . The covers album is one of my most anticipated releases of the new year. Following is a free, legal mp3 from the album. Christmas Day is a day of happiness and wonder for many. I sincerely wish that everyone who reads this feels exactly that way. However, it would be selfishly naïve to forget that the holidays are a dark season for many. We can only guess that was the case for Vic Chesnutt who left us to play on a greater stage one year ago today. This post is not only in memory of Vic but also as a reminder that his struggle was not unique. That "scrooge" at work or down the street might [...]

Filed under: Between the Notes Lucinda Williams ' forthcoming album reportedly will feature a track called 'Seeing Black,' which was written for the late songwriter Vic Chesnutt . The Cowboy Junkies ' next album, 'Demons,' will consist of 11 cover versions of his songs. As those titles suggest, Chesnutt, who was confined to a wheelchair after a car crash at age 18, struggled with more than his share of bleak thoughts. One of his last recordings, his contribution [...]
An exhaustive collection of Cowboy Junkies live covers spanning their entire career.

While piecing together my Best of 2010 post this afternoon, I had occasion to revisit Cowboy Junkies outstanding Renmin Park (don't worry, it's still outstanding, though I'm having a difficult time ranking it) when an email arrived bearing Wrong Piano , the lead single from their next release, Demons . If you'll recall, while working on Renmin Park , the band basically mapped out their next three releases, labeling the impending four volume stretch, The Nomad Series. [...]

oh wow, this sounds like it could be really awesome. cowboy junkies are releasing a record on 2.15.11 entitled demons which is a collection of vic chesnutt songs. this is the second disc out of four in their nomad series which are being released via their own latent recordings. also on the 15th they are releasing a seven song ep of songs, via their site , that didnt make it onto the final demons record. see below for the track listing of both the record and ep. wrong piano [...]

In the pantheon of gut wrenching, emotionally charged break up albums none may top the sheer heartbreak found throughout Bob Dylan's 1975 release Blood On The Tracks . The album has been mined for its share of covers over the years, but it's the first time we are actually featuring a track from what is arguably one of Dylan's best LPs. While there may be a few more obvious choices, we're going with the moody album's melancholy closing track, Buckets Of Rain . The [...]
