In 1976, he formed Subway Sect at the suggestion of Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren. After a few album and single releases in the mid-1980s, Godard retired from music and became a postman. Though I came late to the game when it comes to my appreciation of Vic Godard, I've had a great time tracking down a lot of his back catalog. With a musical style varying wildly from release to release, I've always found myself attracted to Vic's jazz standards-esque songs from the early 802s. In his latest endeavor, Vic teams up with author Irvine Welsh to release this EP from their 2003 musical of the same name. Blackpool is the title song from a production that apparently didn't go over too well in the limited run it had in Edinburgh back in 2002. Blackpool is both the name of Vic Godard's new EP and a song from the EP. Vic Godard is a solo artist who used to be in a punk band known as Subway Sect right around the time of The Sex Pistols. He is released his new EP Blackpool after writing the songs with Irvine Welsh a few years back for the musical of the same name. The song "Blackpool" itself is a winner. Really eccentric and catchy.
