New York Times' featured artist, Brooklynites and genre-benders New [...]

Read part 1 here Saturday morning heralds a distinct shift in the weather. Whereas Friday remained surprisingly nice for most of the day, the sun is officially no more. It's particularly vile early on but we optimistically head down to the Comedy tent for Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Judging by the crowds, we are about 90 minutes too late so seeking shelter we somehow find ourselves in the Cabaret tent just as some god-awful act that I've long since forgotten the name of gets underway. Within two [...]
The Irish summer's Murphy-like tendency to throw up the worst weather at the most inopportune moment led to the calculated gamble of hosting this summer's Marlay Park concert series under cover of a marquee tent. With the sun splitting the rocks all day on Saturday, it's only natural that many would forego the pleasures of the opening acts to enjoy the fortuitous heat, and as the cacophony of chatter grows ever louder during Villagers' set, it's somewhat baffling that they don't just go home. It had seemed a touch fanciful, the idea that a ticket of Villagers [...]

Late last night, the people behind Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick announced that Conor J. O'Brien-fronted band Villagers will take to the stage underneath their Big Top at the Milk Market on Wednesday, 21st September. Saturday night the Mercury and Choice Music Prize nominatted band played their largest headline gig to date at Marlay Park in Dublin. Still riding high on the stellar success of their debut album, Becoming a Jackal , Villagers will no doubt put on an incredible and unmissable performance in Limerick. Tickets for Villagers [...]
CITY FESTIVAL. An actual delight to my ears after we have one of the wettest, coldest, dreariest festival seasons in the UK, imagine retiring to your actual BED instead of a smelly, muddy tent. You can wonderfully do that at London's premiere so very East, music festival, Field Day. With some of the sickest bands and DJs around we decided to take a looksee as to who we really fancy clocking our peepers on and having our ears delighted by on August 6th. Oh Warpaint , Warpaint. Totally didn't 'get it' until [...]
The first in a series of summer concerts to be held in Dublin's Marley Park kicks of this Friday, July 22nd, with The Coronas and KT Tunstall. @ The Park will be held under a limited capacity canvas with the aim of creating an intimate atmosphere in a festival setting. Saturday 23rd will see Conor O'Brien and Villagers headline their biggest Irish show to date. Villagers will be joined by the amazing Beach House, Stornoway and Lisa O'Neill. On Sunday 24th, harpist Joanna Newsom will perform with an eclectic support line-up [...]

Festival Season makes us a little bit insatiable here at Muso's Guide. We've already had Natalie Shaw's review of the festival, but we were so excited about T in the Park, we sent two writers. Here's Steve McGillivray's perspective on the festivities... [...]

Sabe a música nova de Charlotte Gainsbourg , Memoir , lançada no Record Store Day? Pois seu compositor, Conor O'Brien resolveu "tomá-la de volta" para sua banda, o Villagers . Video: Villagers - "Memoir" (Live on Ceol Ar An Imeall) Villagers' Conor O'Brien lent this new original song to Charlotte Gainsbourg recently by co-producing the A-side to her latest single , but it's looking like the Dublin singer-songwriter's version might show up on the follow-up to his promising debut LP, Becoming a Jackal , said to be on the way. In addition to other new tunes, such as "Beatitudes," O'Brien has been performing the catchy folk-pop number on tour this year. Check out his intimate take for Ceol Ar An Imeall [...]

A new song from the wonderful Conor O'Brien captured on 98fm's (Dublin station) Totally Irish. I think Villagers are the most featured band on my blog and one of my most watched live bands too. They play @ThePark, in Marley Park on July 23, supported by Beach House. Which I [Read more]
A weekly feature in which our writers share their favourite tracks of the week. Stornoway - 'I Saw You Blink' (chosen by James Hendicott) It's Glastonbury week, and I'm fortunate enough to be crossing the Irish Sea to watch Stornoway open the main stage on Saturday, amongst, perhaps, the odd other classic festival moment. 'I Saw You Blink' is the kind of track that'll wash away the inevitably mud slide, and might even distract from Glastonbury's new 'tomatina' tomato throwing area. The perfect festival fit that features perhaps the nicest and most original way [...]

Here's the rest of the Friendly Fires and James Vincent McMorrow performances from Later With... Jools Holland on Friday night. Last Tuesday, the bands played 'Hawaiian Air' and 'This Old Dark Machine' respectively. Is this James's Villagers moment? And will Friendly Fires be able to own this summer as many [Read more]

I've been wanting an excuse to post some Villagers because they're a really incredible band who I hope you'll love as much as I do. Finally they've given me a chance, releasing an acoustic version of "Becoming A Jackal" to celebrate it being awarded this years Ivor Novello Award for "Best Song Musically and Lyrically". To give you a vague idea of what to expect, front man Conor O'Brien has a fragile, emotive delivery ranging from a whisper to a howl, which is coupled with poetic, often dark lyrics and fairly spare instrumentation. Comparisons have been [...]
