Hailing from a small village in Northumberland, Vinyl Jacket are a five-piece who make electro-indie in the vein of Everything Everything who, coincidentally, have remixed the bands latest single Red Light. The band released a self-titled EP back in 2010 but it was their debut single proper that they released last year which thrust them further into the limelight; Painting Stations ) received airplay from Chris Moyles, Huw Stephens (who made is his track of the week), Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Tom Robinson and Capital FM as well as a 'New Blood' feature in Artrocker Magazine. [...]

Words: Saam Das If you're like me then Valentine's Day is generally best avoided for a multitude of reasons - mostly related to girls. But I was far from the only one not to care much for the day, as Huw Stephens threw another one of his popular showcases at The Social in London. I popped into check in on FG faves Vinyl Jacket and their chirpy indie pop. Download 'Lucky Soldier' for free below. [...]

Having wowed fans all across the UK in 2011 with their unique brand of no-frills-attached indie pop gems, North East quintet Vinyl Jacket return with new single Red Light . As always, the new track comes accompanied by a fantastically original, quirky video, complete with luminous facepaints, a plethora of dancers and even the lads themselves throwing some shapes. Premiered by Huw Stephens and Greg James earlier last month, Red Light is a near perfect slice of indie pop heaven; worthy of gracing dancefloors throughout the country. [...]
by Paul Brown As someone who considers himself to be a major lover of the North East's musical happenings, it is quite simply a travesty that I haven't yet made it to either of the previous installments of Split Festival , so I'm pleased to finally rectify that this year, even if I'm only able to make it to the festival's first day. Set in the lovely surroundings of Ashbrooke Sports Club in a pretty leafy part of Sunderland, the line-up of the festival is a gratifying blend of local and bigger name talent, and [...]

Words: Saam Das I can't think of a particularly interesting introduction so this will have to be a bit of a Ronseal ("does what it says on the tin") paragraph. Much like how the search of Lawd Sugar's business partner is over , so is the wait to find out ten of my favourite singles from July 2011 - the photo above hints at the winner of the Single Of The Month. Check them all out below. [...]

In a clear demonstration of the power of karma something is stirring on Tyneside. After losing their local hero Andy Carroll to the Devil's team Liverpool the lord is repaying the city with a music scene that is premiership quality. Already this year I've featured three brilliant bands from the Newcastle area ( The Longsands , Mausi and Grandfather Birds ) and there are so many more that you could create a whole blog dedicated just to the Newcastle scene. With all this evidence pointing to a renaissance on the Tyne the Devil decided to [...]
Now I don't like blowing my trumpet, but when I've done a bit of a Mystic Meg in tipping these lads for success, then I think I'm entitled to. I posted my first article on Vinyl Jacket as far back as May last year, when the band had only first taken shape. A second article came in the form of a review of the band's support of Hockey last June, and a third upon the release of their fantastic track, ' Broken Record ' in October. My fourth article will focus around Vinyl [...]

Heralding from the cosy little village of Wylam, Northumberland, this five-piece only got together in January 2010. Fast forward 12 months and they've already bagged an appearance on the Chris Moyles show on Radio One, a headline slot at In the City 2010 festival, a "world class" proclamation from the legendary Tom Robinson and a debut single with a video to boot. Not a bad year's work for five young lads, whose long-term goal is to acquire the 'keys to the village' and be more famous than Jimmy Nail. Read more..
British collective, Vinyl Jacket , have released their debut single off their upcoming EP, Painting Stations . Here's their very Vampire Weekendish video for their very Vampire Weekendish title track:
Much has happened in camp Vinyl Jacket since Crack In The Road first reviewed their debut 3 track EP and support performance for Hockey all those months ago. Having gained the attention of BBC Radio 62s Tom Robinson, along with an ever growing fan base through local and online radio play, Vinyl Jacket are now in a serious position to launch their music to a national audience. Recently the band released their new track 'Broken Record', essentially as a teaser to further entice new fans and listeners. After speaking to [...]

Words: Saam Das Wylam's Vinyl Jacket made it down to In The City to peddle their infectious indie-pop wares to what I hope was a welcoming audience - at the risk of over-repeating myself, I wasn't there. I can tell you an "interesting" fact about Wylam in Northumberland though - it was the birthplace of what is now oldest surviving steam locomotive . I have to tell people this in real life, imagine their amazement.... [...]

Since moving to London earlier this month I've started to miss Newcastle's live music scene more and more. Gone is the close knit community, the Ouseburn valley and cheap beer, instead a bizarre rat race and long, sprawling musical commutes take their place. Now I'm not saying London isn't exciting because it is; the possibilities are limitless, the opportunities are everywhere and the very obvious sense of competitiveness must play some part in spurring creativity. Yet despite this I'm starting to question the very concept of creation. Of course what inspires is different for every person, every [...]
