For an ex-Candy Butcher, there's a remarkable lack of saccharine in this sometimes odd assortment of smart and hooky pop. It was an eerily entrancing Halloween evening at the World Cafe Monday night. Downstairs Live sported some spookiness with dimly-lit orange wall lamps, and the WXPN and WCL logos in orange on opposite sides of the stage, partially illuminated by orange icicle lights and orange Japanese lamps, bulbous like pumpkins. These were part of the Japanese garden, or the 'Yamagarden', if you will, in tandem with some foliage.
