The day is again beautiful with that deep blue sky and plenty of sun. The air outside has a morning chill which I think will get warmer as the day gets older. Gracie has been outside all morning and barking every now and then. I went out with her while the coffee was brewing and saw nothing to prompt the barking, but I'm keeping an eye out for a coyote. My friend saw one twice yesterday morning, and the second sighting was right by my house. None have been around lately as the rabbits are fat and greedy. Two were [...]
Vanessa Upson aka Violetness ' long-anticipated 12" Last Night in My Dreams, I Was Talking to You has finally arrived, and the all-too brief yet utterly wonderful work has just received another accompanying video, this time for sweeping, defiant and exalted outré pop anthem "The Mighty Moss". The video, directed by Rodrigo Melendez with a stunning performance by Silvia Kaehler, is as unsettling as it is bold and apposite, and we're happy to premiere it here today. Last Night In My Dreams, I Was Talking To You is out [...]

There are some songs that sneak up on you, so unassuming in the first few seconds until it reaches a note where it seizes you in such a wonderfully forceful way and before you know it, you've already listened to it 19 times. Violet's "Where The Wild Things Grow" is one of these songs. Beautifully subtle at the beginning until it evolves into this lovely blend of lush strings and saccharine vocals. It's moving and thoughtful without being over the top, allowing the listener to relate to it within the contexts of their own life. Melt into it below. [...]

Wow. Just wow. If you’ve been put off Pixie Geldof’s band Violet because, well, it’s Pixie Geldof, then it’s time to rethink your thinking. New track Where The Wild Things Grow is one of the most gorgeous string laden torch songs we’ve heard for some time. Although Geldof calls it ‘a rough demo’ believe us there’s absolutely nothing rough about this. There’s a cinematic and serene beauty in this song, capturing the essence of a certain Miss Del Rey and Mazzy Star without ever being a poor man’s version of either. [...]

Violetness - The Mighty Moss A while back, I wrote about a gorgeous, haunting track “ The Coal ” by Peruvian-American songwriter Vanessa Upson . She’s back now another equally foggy daydream that’s condensing, thick on your bathroom mirror. Her debut Last Night In My Dreams, I Was Talking To You EP will be coming out on LebensStrasse Records on February 18th and includes three original songs and three remixes by Sun Glitters, Slow Magic , and Robot Koch on the B-side.

Violet Class is an indie rock five piece from Reading in England comprising James Fearn (Vocals), Jack Barnes (Bass / Vocals), James Mortimore (Lead Guitar), David Storrar (Rhythm Guitar) and Adam Mitchell (Drums). Violet Class Taking a listen to Violet Class and the genealogy of Brit Pop from it's roots with the likes of The Kinks becomes ever clearer. A wall of reverberd guitar heralds the way for what is in essence sharply defined song [...]

Yesterday, Allen Taylor ( Lotus Plaza , Mirror Mode , Kolossi ) released a new EP from his Feast of Violet project, which he recently recorded while on tour in Europe with Lotus Plaza. Entitled the Transcontinental EP , the eight-song effort was culled from a variety of recordings that Taylor created while he was moving around from city to city. His goal on the road was to create a new composition every day, and the tracks that appear on the record are his favorites of the bunch. As a whole, The [...]

Pixie Geldof's band Violet really impressed me at this year's Great Escape. 'What You Gave to Me' was an absolute showstopper; you can watch the performance from Brighton below.) like it? You can also download the song here. Click here to view the embedded video.

One of the problems with the internet is that it makes everything seem bigger and more important than it actually is. Another is that it doesn’t have a pause button. As soon as something is uploaded and anyone has any sort of judgement on it, no matter how poorly thought out or how little knowledge on the subject they have, they can press play with their opinion and declare it to the world. We call this the megaphone of ignorance. [...]
