The Dandy Warhols have had one hell of an interesting relationship with the music industry. They're a band who literally rose to fame by being apathetic toward it, and that sense of nonchalance has been carrying them ever since. The band made a recent decision to stop releasing anything commercially appealing, choosing to only cater to their tried and true fan base rather than attract new listeners. Well, at least that's what every other music critic would have you think. Thank goodness I'm not one of them. Music critics lightly started backlashing the Dandys after 2003's Welcome to [...]
Now Again Records We're pleased to announce that Mr. Chop has teamed up with the 5 Day Weekend label – they behind last year's For Pete's Sake album – for another bugged-out excursion into the realms of psych-funk. Switched On – Chop's Moog-synthesizer driven album of classic funk, soul and rock "breakbeat" covers – comes [...]
Seattle's SPORTS and their debut LP have received a ridiculous amount of stereo play from me...seriously...I think I'm driving my fam up the wall with it. Oh well....looks... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Check out singer/songwriter Nicole Atkins new "vigenettes" that are based on her soon to be released album, Mondo Amore . Nicole Atkins song, "And What I Wouldn't Do," is featured below in the clip from filmmakers Mandy Bisesti and Lucia Holm who created three sultry vignettes to go along with three songs from the forthcoming album, the first two of which are streaming on IFC.com today. The lush, lacy look of these vignettes "were born out of years and years of reading fairy tales, books on [...]

Big Blood - Vitamin C If, like me, you're a fan of experimental krautrockers Can, you might want to check out this psych-folk cover of 'Vitamin C' from the 1972 album Ege Bamyasi . Big Blood describe themselves as a phantom four piece that perform as a duo, and they have just put out a split release with Visitations on L'animaux Tryst that comes in a combo package of a 73 record and a CD-R of late-night jam sessions "with each record sleeve offset printed with the bands' artwork in [...]
The Good: Jay Reatard - "You Mean Nothing To Me"; This is the latest in the ongoing string of Jay Reatard B-sides from his singles series. It's yet another solid showing from the Reatard, but anyone who's surprised by that after so many awesome singles is just plain crazy. This tune is driven by some funky keyboards and some hand claps and it's just freakin' awesome so start listening! Grade: A

Three months ago, I asked for your suggestions as I was in the middle of making a mix to mark my high school graduation. I graduated in late May, and though I got the list jotted down, and the files uploaded already, somehow it just didn't feel right, so I decided to save it for another occasion. Well, lately, I've been watching some of my favorite Buffy episodes again, and after finishing the season 3 finale, I know I just have to post it up here and get it over with. A graduation mix in mid August, that's me and [...]
