Despite not being half way through January yet, we're already being overwhelmed with good stuff to share. So in a typical 'blogger's cheat', here is a round-up of some of the excellent songs that have come our way and deserve far more than the arbitrary couple of lines we're giving them. First up is the welcome return of Pete & The Pirates who made their track Winter 1 available around Christmas time. It is from their forthcoming album and is certainly possessing a more electro/synth feel than their previous catchy, straight ahead indie rock. [...]

It's time to listen to the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are just some of the songs that would get there own individual posts on here on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. This mix has some crazy excellent stuff. Listen. Downloadables: Riley (mp3) by The Corin Tucker Band Freak Out (mp3) by Tapes 'n Tapes ( source ) [...]
I'm probably in the minority, but the band I was most excited to see at this week's CMJ Music Marathon was Viva L'American Death Ray Music . It had been at least five years since I was witness to the band's uniquely bent take on post-VU sonic jargon as their live appearances have become increasingly rare. (I later learned talking to drummer Jeff Buock that this is because of the band's members residing in different locales like Austin, Iowa City, New York and France.) So it was down to the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg early. Things were [...]
Each year CMJ (that's the College Music Journal , in case you didn't know) brings college radio DJs and music industry folks from around the country and abroad to mingle and attend panels by day and hear some of the more than 1,200 artists playing around New York City by night. Wading through all the acts performing during the week can be a chore unto itself, so to help take the guesswork out of the process, we've culled together a top 10 for the week. (MP3s are provided in case words aren't convincing enough.) [...]

Coming across like the evil, mutant offspring of Link Wray , One Hour by Viva L'American Death Ray Music is a tune that grabs you by the throat from the opening, malevolent riff and then happily squeezes harder and harder. Three minutes later, battered, bruised and certainly breathless, you're a different person! The song is the lead track from a new 12" titled Behold! A Pale Horse and a bit of web research revealed that " the band has been chugging along since the late '90s, pushing [...]

Viva L'American Death Ray Music have been floating around limited releases for the last couple years and now they find themselves among the ranks at Mexican Summer. In the past their releases have tended to wander the psych/garage/dub landscape and this EP is no different, acting as rather a nice encapsulation of their past impulses. Bookending springy dub with sneer-worthy, driving garage and the paced throbs of sinister psychedelia; the band are as vital here as they've ever been. Naturally the Mex Summer tag means this comes at a limited quantity so be sure to grab one while they stick [...]
