Breathe, pace, play, unwind, feel, absorb, relax - there you go… There’s nothing like some fantastic music in your headphones or on surround-sound to help take your mind off of all the rubbish that has been happening as of late. News over the past week was littered with a lot of that. Put on your headphones – not to shut off so much as to focus on your own internal world or add some color otherwise. Underground Youth – I Need You [...]

We are long time fans of Portland's Viva Voce. Kevin Robinson, of the husband and wife duo that formed the band back in 1998 in Alabama has seen his fair share of ups and downs and experienced the problems with both the music industry and the world at large while forging his path. Although Robinson admits he has spent a great deal of his personal songwriting time in trying to analyze these issues, he recently took a break from it all to focus inwards and on the present moment of today. In doing so, Robinson has [...]

KEXP has loved Portland duo Viva Voce for many year. After the release of their newest record, 20112s The Future Will Destroy You , Kevin and Anita Robinson stopped in for a fantastic live session before playing a full set at the Triple Door. A couple years before that, they played tunes from Rose City at the KEXP bar-be-que. Even further back in 2004, they recorded an entire live EP here at KEXP. Long story short, we've got a lot of love for this fantastic Portland band. As we eagerly await the [...]

KEXP loves Valentines Day. John plays Songs of Love and Hate all morning and for some reason, everyone gets just a bit nostalgic. Hearing all of those 80s tunes when love was a simpler concept without social networks or cell phones makes us just want to hear more. John's fantastic Valentine-themed blog post is a testament to that. Check out this collection of classic love songs, both new and old, and be nostalgic with us. You'll find an assortment of videos and MP3s that should all bring love and warmth to your heart. Happy Valentines Day [...]

So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band, a show preview, or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we'll just round 'em all up for you. Most of these videos are of artists we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won’t be telling you much about the bands themselves, just some musings that really aren’t worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a trillion. Do it! Words by [...]

Since being laid off from my day job last year, my life has been almost strictly new chapters. Unemployment. Food Stamps. Booking shows at Columbia City Theater. Doing PR for Columbia City Theater. Trying to find a way to make money off Sound on the Sound while remaining true to our ideals and intentions (still [...]

The seventh year of Pygmalion Festival opened up with a bang, or more appropriately, an explosion, as Austin, TX-based four-piece Explosions in the Sky played their mind-blowing instrumental post-rock for the sold-out Canopy Club crowd. I became an instant fan of Explosions when their 2005 breakthrough album, The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place reached my eardrums and have been listening ever since. I was able to catch the band at Lollapalooza in 2008, where they put on one of the best shows I've had the pleasure of watching. [...]

Last week we covered a new track from Portland folk outfit Death Songs called "Wounds" off the new PDX Pop Now! compilation. We talked a little bit about the band and the song, and had a few words to say about the organization as well. That wasn't enough; it's high time I let slip a little something - we here at FensePost have been quiet supporters of the Portland festival. Visit the music room in my house and you'll see several from the compilation [...]

As far as charity records go, there may be none more sonically giving than Live From Nowhere Near You: Vol. 2 .
