Watching the Le Sera video for "Please Be My Third Eye," you may recognize red-headed girl as Katy Goodman (Kickball Katy) of Vivian Girls fame. She released her self-titled debut last year, but it pretty much came off as more Vivian Girls songs, so this sounds like a good change of pace. These days, there seems to be a trend of indie pop musicians toning down the reverb and girl group influences in favour a slightly cleaner, more straightforward sound. La Sera 's "Please Be My Third Eye" (from her forthcoming Sees the Light LP, due March 27 through Hardly Art ) reflects that shift. It's an upbeat stomper that is hardly clean, but there's not the same level of swampy reverb as we used to hear from Vivian Girls -related projects. Nicely played, Kickball Katy.

There's lo-fi, and then there's lo-lo-fi. The Babies are bottom-of-the-well-fi, combined with buried-in-the-grass-tech. In other words, their Cry Along with the Babies EP sounds rather like the experiments my ex and I did in our attic, in the '90s – you could hear some great song ideas; and it felt real, and sincere. Kickball Katy is known for showing off her AMAZING BOD on last year's Bruise Cruise [ link ]. As a member of the Vivian Girls , she continually showed off her indie keutness with fiery red hair (without the downsides of traditional gingers) and AMAZING bangs. Even if her music 'totally sucks' and is worse than Best Coast , we can still count on her having a very buzzworthy year based on looks alone.
