What would you get if Lou Reed crossed swords with Stereolab, a pretty fine mess I think you'd agree but one that'd be too good to miss. Something like Voice of The Seven Thunders' 'Dalälven' in fact - an atmospheric cavalcade of psych noise that could well be spoilt if it were to reveal its vocal side. Led by the prolific Rick Tomlinson this is an incarnation without bulbous features and banjo escapades. Instead we get an elaborately constructed plume of noise that is both menacing and downright electrifying. A royal treat. KD [...]
I feel like we should all be jamming out to "Right Now" (and drinking Crystal Pepsi?), because this is the day we've all been waiting for. It's time to stop living in the past and start living in the moment: my annual list of the one-hundred best albums of 2010 is finally ready for you to feast your eyes on it. Look at it. Look at it how you would a naked slut as she spreads her legs for you. It's here for the taking. As is customary now, I've decided not to write blurbs for all 100 [...]

Before beginning this post, I would like to direct your attention to this week's Swan Fungus User Poll. The amazing folks at Temporary Residence Limited have once again gone above and beyond in donating some giveaways to this website that can be passed along to the public. This week's poll asks "What is your favorite Mono record." I know your options don't include sit like the Quip magazine promo CD, the Gone collection (it was a compilation!), or the 2008 DVD The Sky Remains The Same As Ever , but almost every other release is accounted for. [...]
Hey, this Maalox shit works pretty well! A few weeks ago my doctor told me that he's pretty sure the crippling, chronic stomach pain I've been battling since my high school days is not an ulcer. Nor is it anything potentially life threatening. This was a sigh of relief, because of late the pain has been so uncontrollably terrifying that there have been nights I have barely slept even after popping sleeping pills (over the counter and otherwise), benzos and every stomach medication currently available at your local pharmacy. Oh, and in case I [...]

So if you didn't already know, then we were on the radio the other day. Yep, Huw Stephens was chatting us up on his Radio1 show as DIY Label of The Week. Which was of course very nice of him. But just before our feature Huw played a track that gave me shivers, the good kind of shivers. It was by a band called Voice Of The Seven Thunders and it sounded amazing. And it is amazing. And that name! It's kinda up there with "I [...]

More kaleidoscopic marvels for you today: Voice of the Seven Thunders (AKA Rick Tomlinson Voice of the Seven Woods) new LP is out now on Tchantinler Recordings . A blitzkrieg of heavy, psychedelic blues with little bouts of beauty thrown in too. The album was apparently recorded in just 3 days in the spring of last year without any prior rehearsal. Make your purchase here . Voice of the Seven Thunders- Kommune (Download) Another beaming collection from the [...]

Rick Tomlinson returns to the frayed edges of psychedelia, this time amending his moniker to Voice of the Seven Thunders; and with the name change comes a corresponding emphasis on the guitar in its ragged, electrified state. The often pervasive emphasis on fingerpicking is not forgotten here, but rather downplayed a bit on this album which seems to step into the eastern psychedelic shadow that Tomlinson began building on his S/T (Voice of the Seven Woods) LP on Finders Keepers. Drenched with the sound of guitars pushed to the point of ignition, the album wrangles through a canon of instrumental [...]
