Brighton's The Great Escape Festival , by some margin the largest new music industry event in Europe, is upon us and 300+ artists will be descending upon this tiny town to play shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In this week's This Music Wins I take you through 4 artists I think you should check out - Boy Friend, Porcelain Raft, Slow Down Molasses, and Milagres. Resonance FM is also running its own stage - on which I will be performing with Kinnie The Explorer. Arrive promptly 7pm @ The Haunt on Saturday 12th of May to catch [...]

Having never visited Eurosonic before, I assumed it was your usual music industry festival type-deal. Hundreds of bands and loads of industry looking for the next big thing. While the festival can fill that remit, the important part for me is the European focus. Over 250 bands from around Europe congregate in the city of Groningen, north of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and live music is the main attraction. Festival bookers and promoters are here to book acts for their festivals and the EU offer subsidies to those who book Eurosonic-featured acts. Add in the work [...]
It was with bated breath that I arrived in Leeds' University Union, for I didn't know quite what to expect. The support act, Vondelpark, were well into their set and had a sound similar James' more mellow music, which provided a good start to the evening. The wait for James to come on was painful, for the crowd had been livened up and was ready to party. He opened with 'Unluck', which was a great choice to set the tone of the gig, continuing the positive vibe in the room. What impressed most about James' performance was that he started [...]

The latest Nialler9 podcast is a bit different down to the fact that there are two of us. I joined Aoife for a change for the links between tunes. Besides that it's business as usual with some...

R&S Records - IOTDXI By Greg Salter Over the last few years, we've had a number of compilations from the labels that have brought us the most forward-thinking artists in beat and bass-driven electronic music. Back in October 2009 came 5: Five Years Of Hyperdub , a collection of new and old cuts that felt like something of a victory lap for a label that had emerged from the very beginnings of dubstep and, in the process, brought us Burial, Kode 9 and Joker. More recently have come compilations [...]
Everyone likes their privacy. London based Vondelpark, enjoy it particularly. Many music journalists have tried in vain to sift more information out on the trio of songsmiths, but in a variety of ways, it's sometimes better to know less about the artists and more on the music they make. Only our curiosity stands in the [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: James Blake, How to Dress Well, The Weeknd "Vondelpark - Hipbone" What's so good? Being mysterious is really in vogue for bands at the moment, as the likes of Wu Lyf have shown. Following in their footsteps is Vondelpark - not the Amsterdam park, but a trio (we think) from Surrey. All of our knowledge about them [...]
Vondelpark are a trio from Surrey UK that make r&b-influenced lovejams. And that's about all we know about them. Check this Vice interview for more. Vondelpark - Hipbone Vondelpark ( Label ) Rating 8.3
The video for Vondelpark's "Hipbone" directed by Ciarán Wood is definitely hip to the bone. Semifocused images and a flowing light and the same feeling as in "Camels". Low budget is hip! And Vondelpark's stunningly languid melodies and dubstep-like beats are even hipper!
