The ever danceable, bedraggled (wait, I just mean they're always wearing drag, not that they look derelict), multinominal STARFUCKER /PYRAMIDDDDDD/STRFKR is gracing the wonderful stage of Holocene this Thursday with Guidance Counselor and Brkfst Sndwch. Oh, but it's sold out. Wait, wait! There will be 100 tickets at the door starting at 9:30pm! Starfucker's new album, Reptilians , will make your face explode. As much synth swimming in piles of beats as you'd expect, carefully honed in that Starfucker way. I'll leave it at that. Just come and explode tomorrow .
The desperate urge to take every single facile nugget of personal information and mount it, trophy-like on the internet is one of modern society's more deeply stupid traits. The worst part is that this online lifestyle-stamp-collecting behaviour is spreading virally into the real world, as anyone who has had to unwillingly devote half an hour of this precious, precious life viewing pictures from Facebook on a mobile phone, whilst sitting in a pub with the person who is in the same photos, will attest. Perhaps this is the reason that so many artists abandon any attempts [...]
There are a few questions that people often ask me. Doesn't writing about a new band every day make you go a bit crazy? Doesn't sifting through the bad bands cause Skittles-coloured-vomit migranes? Just where do you find the time/patience/sanity to do it? The answer to all those questions is the same: Pass me the own-brand gin, hombre, because my head feels like replicating the surprisingly explosive bit in Scanners. (Or you can help out in a less cheap booze-related way, here) Anyway, a question I would like the answer to is: [...]
Great news James Rutledge heads over: 1.) Vowels' album The Pattern Prism is out soon (his band). 2.) Pre-sniff it with the track called On Up! from the record (below!). 3.) A nice critic in The Wire: "Reaches right into the heart of Krautrock's peculiar anatomy...The Pattern Prism reflects and splits music into many brilliant hues." 4.) A hastily edited together short of live footage on youtube . 5.) A webpage for streaming the album . 6.) His Fever Ray [...]
UK producer James Rutledge has taken on many personas over the years, and is now moving his efforts and exploration into the Krautrock realm. Rutledge will release this new music under the name Vowels , teaming up with LOAF records (The Chap, Johan Agebjorn/Sally Shapiro, Pete Fowler), for the US release of Pattern Prism on September 22nd. Previously only available on import, Pattern Prism is an extension of Rutledge's continuing interest in Krautrock, and he cites influences ranging from Silver Apples and SunnO))) to John Carpenter and [...]
The Pattern Prism by Vowels (listen HERE ) hit me immediately. It was a cold, hard brick to the face on a Monday morning; several bricks, in fact, and each time one of them hit my gullet a snare, cymbal, high-hat or bass drum sounded off. It was painful, yet I found a way to derive pleasure from it. Mornings work like that for me. Nothing makes sense -- I don't want to eat, I don't want to talk, I don't want to do anything but find a [...]
Rutledge is at this stuff again, transforming the looming, death-ridden haunt and taunt of Karin Dreijer's Fever Ray record's fifth track "Triangle Walks" into caterwauling arrangements that, some may say (us) even go so far as to border on tropicalia. With electro infusions, naturally. The track finds its way to release on a 12" July 20. James is also launching a new project, the duo of himself and drummer Chris Walmsley called Vowels , whose first LP, The Pattern Prism , should knock you out this summer. (mp3) Fever [...]
"I only played chess once in my life and I lost" ALBUM: WHY? - ALOPECIA words: Jamie Milton The clocks had just struck past four o'clock today, the street lights were changing their on-times to conform to the darker afternoons and it was occurring to me that I hadn't yet scrolled anything on my favourite album of the year. And it's funny that it took so long because when playing 'Alopecia' all you think about is yourself and what's around you. You don't look back incase some nasty [...]
STRFKR @ HLCN (Holocene doesn't work as well without vowels)

Three Updates: Vowels, Plots and Moroccans
I have: 1. Added a vowel chart to the post on the Suffolk accent. 2. Added a random plot generator to the post "Short Story Generator". 3. Checked that all the links to mp3 files work on the posts about Morocco .
