By Chris Gedos; Photos Jillian Prado Voxhaul Broadcast gave their LA legion plenty to shout about on Wednesday night, January 11th, as night #7 of Satellite Nights was a rousing success. It's quite a thank you from a venue to its patrons to host nine straight nights of free music! And I stayed away from the bar, so it really was a free night, even though all had fun whether they were imbibing or not! [...]
Tonight's touts: ► Andrew McMahon brings Jack's Mannequin to the Viper Room for a sold-out show behind the October release of his third album, "People and Things." Don't stay out too late, though (or set your DVR), the band also appears tonight on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." Jack's Mannequin kicks off a nationwide tour on Jan. 19, but McMahon and gang will do one more gig before they leave, appearing Thursday at the Troubadour with headliner Thatwasthen as Bikelock. ► Idle Warship , the collaboration between hip-hop star [...]
2011 was a robust year for music in Los Angeles. Bands broke through, bands broke down; newbies arrived in swarms, some with a bang; and old favorites raised their game, or lost their way. Today, I start a countdown of Buzz Bands LA's 20 favorite album of the year. [ Last year's list .] First up: Nos. 20 through 16: 20. Voxhaul Broadcast , "Timing Is Everything" (self-released) Where timing might not be everything. The O.C.-bred, L.A.-based [...]
Can I just start off by saying how much I love this band? About a month ago, I was looking for a show to go to. Voxhaul Broadcast popped up for one of the one's that night. So, I checked them out online and immediately fell in love. Hands down, one of my best shows yet. Especially since I got to stand directly in front of David Dennis (lead singer) the whole time. A very indie band, they're mainly composed of soul, psychedelic, and rock sounds. Their songs are catchy, and feel good. Blackout [...]

Voxhaul Broadcast's debut album "Timing Is Everything," which came out back in March, wasn't so much a feast as a sampler platter of of fare that the L.A. quartet found tasty in its first four years — soul-infused pop, biting indie rock, and even a bit of U.K.-flavored psychedelia from material originally recorded for its 2007 EP. Their single "Leaving on the 5th" displayed an appetite for propulsive, radio-friendly anthems, and that seems to be the direction frontman David Dennis and mates Anthony Aguiar, Phillip Munsey II and Kurt Allen are headed on their new release, the [...]

►L.A. darlings Airborne Toxic Event headline tonight's L.A. 101 fest at the Gibson Amphitheater along with Tokyo Police Club , Delta Spirit & more. ►The co-headlining tour of L.A.'s Voxhaul Broadcast and N.J.'s Ocean Grove (it's an East coast-West coast thing) hits the Troubadour tonight with special guest Robert Schwartzman (of Rooney). ►Don't know how they're going to get all nine members plus instruments (to include a horn and string section) on the Viper Room stage, but it'll be interesting to watch them try. Led by Jon Lorentz, Marcus Very [...]

Voxhaul Broadcast is one Los Angeles' finer musical offerings who offer up a tight package of bluesy rock with melody and grit. Earlier this year they released "Timing Is Everything" (their debut full-length album which boasts the passionate "Leaving on the 5 th " and the funky punk of "Cheetah") and now the boys are taking it out on the road for a co-headlining tour with New Jersey's pop/rock outfit Ocean Grove and special guest Robert Schwartzman (of Rooney ). Yes, L.A., they have a date just for you: October 23 rd [...]

So I've been stuck in the Dominican Republic since my gig on Saturday thanks to the ultra hyped junior hurricane Irene. The irony of being stuck in the Caribbean because of a hurricane in New York of all places is pretty funny but it's beautiful down here so I'm not complaining. Saturday at Praia down here was sick, the ShaveUrLegz.com did it up with the promotion and the place was packed and bumpin' all night. I've said it before and I'll say it again, these guys are doing something fantastic for Dominican culture and I couldn't feel more privileged be a part of it. There will be [...]
Oh, Sunset Strip, you conflict me so. On one hand you are an interactive museum of rock clichés, Madame Tussauds with a pulse and a Flying V, a vast portion of your denizens seeking to inhabit the tattooed skin of GnR/Jane's/Van Halen. On the other you inspire a certain sense of wonderment, because the fabric of Los Angeles needs your leather, lace and spandex, and maybe even Steel Panther just for laughs, no matter what they say east of Fairfax. And because your clubs sound great. Now we arrive at this year's annual chest-thumping party, the Sunset Strip Music [...]

When it comes to the Northern-Southern California battle, I weigh in firmly and decidedly on the Northern side of the state. Your solid Saturday touts: ► Power pop fanatics need not stay home tonight, because the Posies [pictured above] play 19932s "Frosting On The Beater" tonight at the Viper Room. ► She never really just worked 9 to 5. Country's legendary lady Dolly Parton plays a second night at Hollywood Bowl. ► Chillwavers Memory Tapes headlines the Troubadour with local psychedelic, R&B-infused, pop group Electric Guest playing as support. ► If you couldn't get into Ty Segall 's sold-out show last night, San Francisco's garage-rock [...]
An excellent performance from a young band that will only improve with age.

Rival Sons , "Pressure and Time" — When Jay Buchanan first surfaced, he was a pop songsmith trading in "middle-of-the-road adult alternative" ( iTunes' description), and he did it better than most. Whatever Kool-Aid he drank with new bandmates Scott Holiday, Robin Everhart and Michael Miley ... well, bottle it. The L.A. quartet's debut album "Pressure and Time" (out July 26) is scorching blues-rock, not far from how Led Zeppelin diagrammed it, with Buchanan's wail rivaling any frontman from the past four decades. It's not retro with a wink, it's retro with a [...]
Relatable, humble, and visually engaging, The Airborne Toxic Event defy the nay-sayers with an energetic close to the band's spring tour.

May 12, 2011, Cabaret La Tulipe, Montreal, QC Approaching the venue, anticipation was in the air, as The Airborne Toxic Event's tour bus came into view. An interview was in the works before their performance at Cabaret La Tulipe in Montreal. This being the first time I would see The Airborne Toxic Event in person, not to mention the fact that doing a live interview would be a bit intimidating, to say the least. The ticker flashed its lights and showcased this accomplished and distinct band. The imperturbable Mikel Jollett strolled off the bus, only to [...]

VOXHAUL BROADCAST have been local darlings for a while, but one of LA's more celebrated indie-acts look to expand their horizons with the release of thier long-awaited debut full-length, Timing Is Everything . With production from both Tom Biller and Chris Thorne, the quartet was in good hands and they endeavored to encapsulate the power of their live presence, while maintaining a signature blend of R&B, rock and soul. The lead track from Timing Is Everything is "Leaving On The 5th," and it's corresponding video was premiered by AOL Spinner on April 13. The clip features [...]
