by The Panic Manual

Todays song of the day is a tribute to the ephemeral state of good indie music. Today I simultaneously discovered Harlem Shakes and mourned their passingapparently back in 2009. This awesome alt rock band formed in 2006, released its first, very well received, album, Technicolor Health (a great name for an album), in 2009 and then disbanded that same year. Theres nothing worse than discovering a great new artist, googling them and then finding the following statement on Wikipedia, (insert band name here) WAS an American indie rock band This knowledge unfortunately also comes on the heels of my discovering [...]

As we near the closing of the original Emos, we culled our favorite memories of the venue, and we hope you'll share your favorites with us as well. Emos has long been a staple on 6th Street, and as it moves to Riverside, we truly wish the best for the venue and its future endeavors. The Austin quartet, featuring Matt Simon (ex-Voxtrot) and Dave Longoria (ex-Trail of Dead) along with Bryan Mammel and Amy Hawthorne, channels the vintage sounds of the 50s and 60s (a little bit of the Band, a little bit of Elvis' swagger), keeping it stripped down for the roadhouses and whiskey joints that we know are still out there, and still work too. The only reason to explain the name of the playlist is that I would die without the tunes in said playlist. Of all the bands that have done so, there is only one that I can say I was legitimately sad to hear about: Voxtrot. That music soundtracked hundreds of college memories and their songs are scattered across countless mix CDs I have laying around. Luckily, when young band members move on it often means another band begins. This is the case with International Waters fronted by Mitch Calvert of Voxtrot. Their tag on bandcamp is 'jangle pop' which sounds about right. You can [...]
