The Voyeurs (Highland Park, CA) [MP3] The Voyeurs - Things People Say It's a season of change and last night the Echo was full of it. The Voyeurs and Go West Young Man both gave birth to new albums and cemented their status as two bands to watch in the burgeoning east side music scene. The show drew a large crowd who came early for energetic fervor of Les Blanks and stayed well after

[Happy birthday to Mike Patton -- who's apparently performing at Coachella in April not with Faith No More but with beatboxer Rahzel. ... No Coachella lineup announcement this morning, by the way. Stay tuned.] Big goings-on at the Echo, where the Voyeurs and Go West Young Man celebrate their album releases, and the Echoplex, where IO Echo headlines, with support from from dreamy NYC art-rockers Zaza . Opening that show is JJAMZ , something of an all-star band. It's the first show for a [...]

Today marks the official release of South Bay stalwarts and former E>K>U>K members, Jonathan Hylander and Sean Johnson's new band, The Voyeurs , debut release Well Known Drag . The Voyeurs sound like a natural extension for Hylander and Johnson from their time in E>K>U>K, where both bands play poppy 60's garage rock, The Voyeurs take a decidedly less stripped down punk approach to their sound, instead incorporating a bouncy vaudevillian pop jangle to their songs. Well Known Drag is out today on vinyl on Johnson's own Otik [...]

The way they bond, Jonathan Hylander and Sean Johnson may as well be twin drummers of different mothers. The pair, the driving force behind the Voyeurs , were pounding the skins for different South Bay bands when they met. They went on to play in the formidable but ill-fated (and hard to type) quartet E>K>U>K before bouncing back to write and record their Voyeurs debut, "Well Known Drag." Between then, they also play in about 54 other bands (actually, four), so you'd think they'd grow tired of one another. But over burgers in Burbank on [...]

I've been in babyland for some time now, but it doesn't mean the flow of music piling into FSHQ has diminished. The one nice thing of holding a baby for hours is that you can listen to a lot on your Ipod. There are so many really excellent releases lining up for 2009 that I've been hearing and it's my first chance to call some of these out. First up, Portland's THE BUILDERS & THE BUTCHERS . I've tipped them quite a bit on how I think they should be [...]
The Henry Clay People, Eleni Mandell (with a FULL BAND I might add), and Micah Panzich of Paperplanes all on the same bill? Holy CRAP you better believe I'm so there. LA Record are presenting a tremendous lineup this weekend at my home away from home - The Prospector in Long Beach. Get all the details and free MP3s right here. This Saturday night I propose a caravan of sorts down from LA. If

ARTIST: After the Gold Rush.011 Free mp3s from Faunts, Bon Iver, Chromeo, Illinois, Vetiver, Elvis Perkins and more! DATE: 01-19-09 WRITER: Mark Ziemke PHOTO: Old-Timer McGee Yeah, it's been a while, sue me! Actually, please don't sue me because I don't have any money. It's been a while partly because I've been in a holi-daaaze, but more because of the lack of any good music to come out since October. I mean, no one tours during the last two months of the [...]
Avi Buffalo (Long Beach, CA) Its been a interesting weekend. I spent Saturday night at Spaceland with the ever-amazing Rademacher and yesterday I ventured down to Long Beach to check out Avi Buffalo and Wet Cassette - The new project from The Rolling Blackouts which also features The Voyeurs' Sean Johnson and Jonathan Hylander. Thanks for introducing me to Winter Solstice gents. Avi Buffalo

I love public transport. Not for the predictable lefty environmental reasons, though those are valid as well. The trip to and from work each day affords me an opportunity to warm up for and cool down from the day without the stress generated by fighting rush hour traffic in a car. Even better, however, is the opportunity for people watching. I'm a virtual voyeur on a city bus, observing my fellow passengers and eavesdropping on snippets of conversation. I like to make up stories about the people that I watch. Based on a stolen conversation, characteristic body language or just [...]

Aaaah, l'Halloween !

For the few of you who didn't go see MBV last night - The Voyeurs played at Spaceland with The Minor Canon for Club NME. I unfortunately couldn't attend due to band rehearsal and trip down to Long Beach but Rock Insider photog Benjamin Hoste was there to capture all the action. Check out photos below! Long Beach readers catch them live at Que Sera October 8th with The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra . [MP3] The Voyeurs - Something Sets Me Off [...]

From Los Angeles, South Bay are The Voyeurs , an up-tempo melodic pop/rock duo who have a distinct 60's mod era sound. Their merging styles conjure up energetic catchy and harmonious arrangements. The Voyeurs are former band members of E>K>U>K and already have a loyal and existing fan base. The self-titled EP from the band's own Otik Records is available free to download on-line at RCRDLBL and from the band's myspace. I'm enthusiastic as their full length album will be available [...]
Any casual Glassell Park jogger, walker, b-baller, shot caller, and general enthusiast of spandex active wear has probably seen them: A group of young boys and girls enjoying a Saturday afternoon playing kickball. It's perhaps the most definitive sport from one's childhood, a national pastime for elementary school recess jocks and a burden of bad memories for the uncoordinated, athletic types
Spider Problem TONIGHT at Silverlake Lounge Happy June Everyone! New Monday night residencies start TONIGHT with local super group Afternoons at Spaceland, genre bending psychadelic outfit Rumspringa at The Echo, and my personal favorite - the high energy absolutely fucking crazy Spider Problem at Silverlake Lounge. All three bands have been hovering under the radar for the past few months.
The Voyeurs (South Bay, CA) I've known about The Voyeurs for quite some time now and have been waiting until I found the right time and the right words to talk about them. Today seems like the perfect day for such introductions. Most of you probably recognize them as former members of E>K>U>K and current side project Vaudeville . Its members are also the brains behind the burgeoning South Bay label Otik Records . Voyeurs drummer Sean Johnson [...]
