Friday's Amhran Gach La is going to be a covers day to help bring on that Friday feeling. Here's a great video for Vyvienne Long's performance of NERD's 'He Wants To Move' http://vyviennelong.com/ Here I found another brilliant cover version. How good is this? Eddie Grant's 'I Don't Want to Dance' .... performed by Vyvienne Long:
![List: Best 50 Songs of 2010 [50 - 41]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3042052_lg.jpg)
We're well into 'Lists Season' and it's about time I got into it! I suppose we're moving into an age where the song and not the album is deemed of paramount importance. The top 50 contains the 50 tracks from 50 different artists and like all lists they represent the music which I adore at this very moment in time. 50: Awake Young Soldiers - Auburn The [...]

Vyvienne Long has been known for sometime as a boundlessly talented cellist and arranger, making her name with Damien Rice and cementing that reputation on Lisa Hannigan's beautifully orchestrated Sea Sew . Long also shares many of the quirks and idiosyncracies that make Ms. Hannigan so endearing. Here, on her debut full length, she displays all her talent, confidence and humour to fabulous effect. As you would expect from such an experienced player, this is a gorgeous album brimming with inventive strings, jazzy piano, walking upright bass and some horns, all held together by [...]

Sunday, we started off Irish Singer-Songwriter's Week with a feature on Irishmen under 40 and a promise of more to come. Today, on the cusp of St. Patrick's Day itself, we fulfill that promise in spades, with music of and from a full compliment of young Irish lasses, and - at post's end - links to a full set of revived past features on U2, Sinead O'Connor, and Celtic Punk. Enjoy...and may the luck of the Irish be with ye! [...]

Through my journey of being a music fan onto writing a blog and then onto organising a monthly sessions night I simply can't help having an opinion on things! One such thing is Ticket Pricing! The Good; According to many a status update new Irish band Little Green Cars got it spot on last night. They filled up Whelans on a night there was some stiff competition up the road in The Lower Deck! The full house was because Little Green Cars had a quality support act in We Cut Corners, tickets [...]

During October The Ruby Sessions in Dublin held four special gigs in celebration of 10 years of gigs on a Tuesday night in aid of Dublin's Simon Community. One of those nights featured Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, Paul Brady and Vyvienne Long! YouTube user Supigirl caught many clips from the night. Here are the best! Bear in mind too that there was maybe only 100 punters at this gig! [I was in Whelans that night at a great Mark Geary gig so I wasn't too pissed at not being there] Glen Hansard & Damien Rice [...]

The other day my suffle threw The Dead 60s version of 7 Nation Army at me. Made me remember how much I dig that song. And I'm not alone. There's been over a dozen covers, but I only have a few. Any of you have any more to add, throw a link in the comments or e-mail the cut to me and I'll put it up. Jack White was one of the most consistently good indie artists. Too bad he sold out to Warner. 1. The Dynamics. [...]
That's right… songs about phone calls! (Is my suburbia-imposed boredom palpable yet?) The Blow — Hey Boy Hey Boy Why you didn't call me? I waited for days I can't believe you didn't call Phoenix — Long Distance Call I'm far gone but your long distance call And your capital letters keep me asking for more The Wilson Hospital — Call Me A.S.A.P. Lacking time or ability to really focus on mixtapiness this week, I've asked a good friend, fellow music aficionado and blogger to take the reins this week. She's come through in stunning fashion. Thanks to Mel from New Leaves In March for keeping the Friday Mixtape tradition here going. At the end of each year, I put together a mix cd that acts as a sort of musical yearbook for me. I try to capture new artists I discovered as well as the songs that really stood out on the ipod during the [...]

Saw yet another amazing concert from Damien Rice on Friday at a very cool venue in Downtown LA. The Orpheum , which opened with its very ornate architecture in 1926 to showcase vaudeville acts, was the perfect place to see someone like Damien. I have to say this might be one of my favorite concerts that I've attended...really good music, sung with the intensity that only Damien can bring (seriously, I can't think of one other singer that comes close in terms of sincere passion for his music). The stage was perfectly lit and the acoustics [...]
