You can't get 33:9 on a clock, so you'll have to settle for this. For a change this installment of 33 isn't slipping in just before midnight because I was lazy, distracted, or couldn't be arsed. It's actually being written in advance, on Thursday, since I'll I'll be out galavanting somewhere on Friday night. Pete Wylie is a pain in the arse for anyone who likes to keep their music collection carefully aphabetised. Wah!, Wah! Heat, Shambeko! Say Wah!, JF Wah!, The Mighty Wah! and Wah! the Mongrel, all different [...]

I love stuff like the above video. It just seems a little more inventive than writing a verse-bridge-chorus three-minute pop song. Although, given how much straightforward pop music (albeit smothered in reverb, compression and distortion) I've been listening to this year you'd never have guessed. Anyhow, for those of you getting a bit bored of Festival stuff, remember we have our four Toad at the Circus gigs starting next week, with the first one being the Pineapple Chunks album launch, supported by Dolfinz (from Stonehaven) and Mutch & Thomas (from The Leg). The info for all four gigs [...]

Fuck fuck fuck! I'm out of commission for two days because of Wide Days and suddenly I find myself up to my arse in jobs I need to catch up with. Wide Days was very interesting indeed. I thought it might be a little different, and so it proved. Being on one of the panels this time means people don't look at you quite as much as if you were trying to sell them something unpleasant, which can happen at these things. I enjoyed taking part actually, although I fear I might have been [...]

for some reason i found myself listening to this today. this being 802s for this comp known as c81. the rest of this post is exactly what i wrote when i posted this back in 08. c81 was compiled by nme journalist roy carr and rough trade pr dude christopher rose for the 5th anniversary of independent label movement in the uk and of course to show off rough trades wares. more info can be found here , via wikipedia. there's some real awesome stuff here, there are a few turds too. but of course what might be pure [...]

Bicycle Thieves Genre: Indie / Glum Rock From: Liverpool, United Kingdom A word of advice from the Devil. If you're from Liverpool and you don't want to perpetuate the myth (and it is a myth no matter what the scouse hating media say) that all scousers are robbers then don't call your band Bicycle Thieves! That aside it's a great name, a name which they could have adopted from the Pale Fountains [...]
"Better Scream" is from the debut Wah! Heat 73 single released February 1980 on Pete Wylie's new Inevitable label. The band consisted of Wylie on vocals and guitars, Rob Jones on drums and former Those Naughty Lumps' bassist Pete Younger on bass. Wylie went on to form numerous "Wah!" incarnations (others being: Wah!, J.F. Wah!, The Mighty Wah!, Shambeko! Say Wah!, etc), but this single in my opinion is his best work. Listen to Wah! Heat - Better Scream http://www.shelflife.com/mp3-b in/b_wahheat.mp3 [...]
