A very nice person has sent us a mini-picture of what is allegedly and possibly the cover of Kate Nash's muchly-awaited sophomore album My Best Friend Is You . From the looks of it, there has been a lot of professional work poured into the sleeve so it looks bona fide. We love it and we hope to get you the official version very soon in good quality. Lest any of you think my pining away this week for a real brick and mortar version of The Vinyl District was some Yoko Ono-like 'wish poem'...well, you're only partly right. Some interesting offers did come our way, although all best seized upon when the thing actually exists. But I don't need this to happen today or tomorrow. Or next week or next month. Longer range is fine. While I in fact hone the meter to that wish poem. [...]
Somesay might be the most rock'n'roll song of all time. Let me clarify that. IF rock'n'roll is the sound of defiance AND IF it is about passion and feeling AND IF it is about pumping your fist in the air AND IF it is a sound that enables all of these things THEN Somesay IS the most rock'n'roll song ever. I have loved this music since I first heard it in 1981 and on considered reflection it is still the motherfucking bomb. Don't be fooled by the album version from [...]

Sorry if you tuned in a few hours ago and thought today's posting was missing. But I had to make sure that today it appeared at 09:09 hours on 09/09/09. mp3 : iLiKETRAINS - Spencer Percival mp3 : Propaganda - Dream Within A Dream mp3 : Wah! - The Story Of The Blues (Parts 1 & 2) All three songs last nine minutes and nine seconds. I'll put my anorak away now.

It's good to hear from Kate Nash after a tiny hiatus that feels like a century. Her second album has a more punk feel to it and is slated for a summer 2009 release. There are 2 confirmed tracks on it - "Paris" and "Doo Wah Doo." Also, I have been hearing about a song called "Cat Song" a lot. In December, Kate wrote to her fans on my space saying " so i was in the studio last week doing some demos, we did 10 tracks in 4 days and i figure the less time [...]
There's some folk out there who will put Pete Wylie on a pedestal and then kneel down and worship him. There's others who would gladly nail him to a tree... The fact he can produce such contrasting reactions and opinions tells you that he's certainly someone it's impossible to ignore. He's now had a recording career that spans the best part of 30 years, either under his own name or some sort

Those of you based in the UK will know that Liverpool is European Culture Capital this year and to celebrate this (whatever it actually is) I thought I'd stick up a quick little post in honour of our friends up North. I considered basing it around the city's most famous sons, but you can probably get all The Coral songs you like elsewhere. For some reason the late 70s and early 80s saw a Merseyside music scene born that, whilst not as commercially successful as the Merseybeat bands of the 60s, spawned many great bands in its own [...]
