There it is! Near your children, even! Sunk in chlorine, sucking on hot September air - it's a life that thinks it's a poem! My god, will anyone stop it, stop HER ? - that asymmetrical heave of matter glittering drops of water down her back like running haikus? Just look at her! Lacking all grace, slow grinding her feet with obscene puddles of prose? Looking back at us all as if through the wrong end of a microscope? Like we're the magnified lines she wants to climb up and into. *shudder* She'll never make me [...]

If the stars would have aligned, Castledoor would be touring on its second album about now, building on the momentum they had back in 2007 . Instead the band bade farewell early last year, its members scattering and its songs echoing (still lovingly, it should be pointed out) in the iPods of veteran Silver Lakers. As you'd expect, though, fans have not heard the last of frontman Nate Cole's soaring vocals. Cole and his lifemate/bandmate Liska have relocated to Brooklyn and released a song each of the past three months as Doom & Gloom [...]
[Thanks to everyone who helped/offered help with this blogger's tech problems yesterday. Back to our regularly unscheduled programming:] Top things to consider after checking out Ima Robot this morning (11:15) on Morning Becomes Eclectic: ► Color me interested in hearing new music from Moses Campbell , who are playing the Smell tonight along with Peter and the Wolf and Black Jesus . ► Whispering Pines and Wheelhouse play the Satellite. ► Wait.Think.Fast , joined by [...]
The favorite 40 local albums of 2010 as rendered by a listener who tries be open to sounds from every niche in our fair region, who tries not be swayed by hype, and who makes no apologies for liking his meat and potatoes. 1. Local Natives , "Gorilla Manor" (Frenchkiss) This was more of a 2009 album for locals who fell for the Natives during their Silver Lake residencies, but its February release in the U.S. augured widespread [...]
Scottish rockers Dananananaykroyd , who were scheduled to arrive in the U.S. this week, have been forced cancel their appearance Saturday night at Spaceland because of visa problems. L.A. indie-rockers Wait. Think. Fast. — whose sophomore album "Luces Del Sur" came out earlier this fall, much to our delight — have agreed to join the bill for "A Night With Buzz Bands LA." White Sea , the new solo project from M83 singer-keyboardist Morgan Kibby, headlines, joined by L.A. quintet Hello Dragon , who will be celebrating the release [...]

Top 7 shows on a criminally overbooked night on which Buzz Bands could hit any of 10 shows and have a very good time: ☛ Tim Booth and James , whose music occupied a special place in our soundtrack to the '90s, is back with a good new album "The Morning After the Night Before." They play the Music Box supported by vastly underrated (but maybe not for long) U.K. singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt . ☛ Corin Tucker, whose music in Sleater-Kinney, occupied a special place in our soundtrack to the '90s (and a [...]
[Birthday greetings go out today to Owen Pallett ...] Tonight's top 3 hangs: ☛ Funeral Party — the young East L.A. rockers who recently made NME's list of the year's top new bands — kick off a residency at the Bootleg Theater. They're singed to RCA, which has pushed back the release of their debut album "Golden Age of Knowhere" to January, but there's Mike Relm's video for "NYC Moves to the Sound of LA," above. ☛ Wait. Think. Fast. [featured [...]

The restlessness of indie rock and the ethereality of Latin pop. Spanish and English. Jacqueline Santillan and Matthew Beighley. They are marriages that work on "Luces Del Sur," the second album from L.A. quartet Wait. Think. Fast . Now about that pesky punctuation in the band's name ... "It's not wait-think-fast," says Santillan, explaining the derivation, which has nothing to do with quick thinking. "It's from 'Siddhartha' — when he goes to the city and is asked what he's learned." Across the living room in their Echo Park home, Beighley smiles: "It's cooler [...]

[Sunset Junction, other Junction functions, shows by legends and a show by Legend, shows in massive amphitheatres and shows by people with egos the size of amphitheatres — what a weekend. When am I going to find time to celebrate Serj Tankian's birthday?] Once through the weekend, real ... slow ... like: Friday highlights: ☛ Crowded House [pictured] plays downtown's Club Nokia behind its [...]
Wait. Think. Fast. bring together the sounds of two of L.A.'s burgeoning music communities - East Side indie rock and Latin Alternative - for a singular new style. Today's Top Tune features Tijuana's Ceci Bastida on "Leymah Contra Los Diablos".
This is a tale as old as time: We love Summer Darling. And so we've come out of hibernation to present tonight's show at Spaceland to celebrate the recent release of the band's wonderful self-titled new album (out now on Origami Vinyl) and the second night of their month-long residency. Masterminds of the bait-and-pounce post-rock build-ups, Summer Darling's new record lures you in with
[Birthday greetings to Rivers Cuomo, who hits the big Four-Oh on Sunday ...] My top 5 reasons to leave the house this weekend that don't involve Kustom culture or Bill Cosby : ☛ DeLorean , the hotly tipped synth-wielding kids from the coast of Spain, play the Echo tonight. Have a taste of "Stay Close." Oh, and Wait. Think. Fast open. ☛ The best anthemic rock band in these parts, Helen Stellar , headlines Spaceland tonight, supported by U.K. quartet [...]

The Silverlake Jubilee arrives with a bang this weekend, the first-year music and arts festival bringing some 50 bands to a three-stage neighborhood fair featuring cutting-edge DJs, comedy, spoken word, film, art and fashion — not to mention three dozen or so food trucks to satiate attendees' appetites. Buzz Bands LA has joined with Jubilee organizers to co-present the indoor stage at El Cid on Saturday and Sunday night. Eastern Conference Champions — supported by Mississippi Man, Francisco the Man and Polls — headline on Saturday; Useless Keys [...]

Here's your fare for 5/5/10:] Anticon soundscapist and Andrew Bird collaborator Martin Dosh [that's his video for "Airlift," above] hits the Echo tonight behind the April release of his fifth album "Tommy." Supporting is local boy genius Will Wiesenfeld is his new incarnation as Baths . ... The Hold Steady plays to a sold-out Fonda Theatre behind its new album "Heaven Is Whenever." ... Northern Ireland's Two Door Cinema Club has [...]

This song's been around for a little while but I've been digging it like whoa of late. Wait.Think.Fast. apparently sing in both English and Spanish, though "Look Alive" is only English. The song grabs me quickly with pulsating electronic percussion and takes a little while to speed up, but once it does, it's brilliantly sweet and dreamy and atmospheric all at once. The quartet is growing quickly out in L.A. and hopefully the rest of the world will catch on soon. Wait.Think.Fast. - "Look Alive" [MP3] Wait.Think.Fast. on MySpace [...]

could it be that we've been this way too long? ♫ Wait.Think. Fast. - Look Alive Los Angeles kicks out another gem and this time it's from the dynamic and beautiful Wait. Think. Fast. Besides making appealing music, the band features a husband-wife combo which I always find endearing. With 2 albums under their belt "Look Alive" is the first taste of their next collection. 2008's Vuelve Al Mar , which frequently sees singer/wife Jacqueline Santillan's singing in Spanish, has a much darker and mellower energy. It's good [...]
Wait.Think.Fast. has a new album set to release this Spring, and the band's single, "Look Alive," will appear on One Tree Hill's season premiere Jan 18.
