The Walkmen Heaven Fat Possum Records [2012] Fire Note Says: The Walkmen release another stellar album with the graceful Heaven ! Album Review: One could say that The Walkmen have hit their stride but I believe this top end streak started about 4 years ago and has never halted evidenced by the excellent You & Me [2008], Libson [2010] and now the newly released [...]
Over the course of their career, NYC's The Walkmen have never been the most innovative of bands. That trend continues with their new album (their seventh) Heaven . In a lot of ways The Walkmen have devolved into a band that simply exists for the sake of existing. They have little to say and say it in a very uninteresting way. Nothing about the album, the lyrics, the energy, the melodies, the hooks, the arrangements, is exceptional. It's all a morass of average. It's rare that a band does not excel at [...]
Here are a few MP3s of songs from some of the better albums released this week: King Tuff – "Keep On Movin'" and "Bad Thing" from King Tuff Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – "Man on Fire" from Here...
With the rate at which groups come and go and with the extremely fleeting attention of most fans, it is rare to see an established indie act these days. The Walkmen are one of those groups. Does their newest live up the legacy of their previous work? Read more »

photo by Morgen Schuler Hey Marseilles opened the day up on the main stage with a great set of Seattle's favorites. Their vast instrumentation and soaring melodies drew a large crowd for a show so early in the day. As always, their songs sounded fantastic. photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler photo by Morgen Schuler [...]
What a day today was, in the previous years Sundays have always been a little lackluster. It makes you wonder if it's done on purpose where the day starts off slow but picks up a quite a bit... Read the rest on Speakerboxxx.com
A new series comprised of music dug, then forgotten, remembered, possibly forgotten again, re-remembered, and now shared. Throwback California band The Allah-Las have setup a radio series dubbed Reverberation where they string together crate-dug gems into 9 to 12 song capsules. Hard to find rarities, overlooked classics, the occasional unreleased Allah-Las jam, and newer treats from White Fence and Sonny Smith all flow neatly from one heady space into the next. This week they reminded me of how much I dig Robyn Hitchcock and [...]

The Walkmen (Matt Barrick - drums, Pete Bauer - multi-instrumentalist, Hamilton Leithauser - vocals, Paul Maroon - guitar, and Walter Martin - bass) have managed to stay together, with the same lineup, for over a decade, a remarkable feat in and of itself. Over that time, the D.C. via Philadelphia/NYC collective may have taken the long way around, but in doing so have crafted a unique atmosphere and sound with their music. Following a brief anniversary celebration, the band has readied its next full-length, Heaven. Produced by Phil Elks (Fleet Foxes, The Shins), the album reveals a [...]

GTI has already featured the title track from the Walkmen 's new album, Heaven . Overall, things are much more stately and restrained here than what that song suggested. Still, the Walkmen have tapped into a wellspring of poise and grace on Heaven , and it all sounds just wonderful. Now, for your listening pleasure, NPR has made the entire thing available for streaming ( here ). Enjoy! Or if you just want a few select tracks... Heaven : We Can't Be Beat [...]

The Walkmen- formed waaay back in 2000- are one of New York's most beloved indie rock bands, and they just keep on truckin' with an upcoming seventh album, Heaven . Many are calling it their best work yet, but before you give the whole thing a listen, give the Heaven single a go. Lovely and melodic, Heaven is a sweet slice of what's to come on the full-length LP. There's a newfound grace, maturity, and sort of a longing in Hamilton Leithauser's voice as he sings, "Remember, remember/All we fight for." It's the Walkmen, all [...]

The Walkmen - The Love You Love The Walkmen - Heaven When we last crossed paths with inimitable rock-crooners The Walkmen, it was while we were woozy-waltzing in the back room of a dirty cellar bar listening to their last release, Lisbon , all jilted and boozy and breathless - and even though we're just now delving directly into this one, Heaven seems to be just as much an intoxicating, twinkling trip as its [...]

M. Ward has a new song and a new album out called A Wasteland Companion , which you can grab right over at the awesome Merge Records . Here's a little blurb about the awesomeness: The album, consisting of 12 stunning tracks, was made with 18 musicians and recorded in eight different studios in Portland, Omaha, New York City, Los Angeles, Austin and Bristol (UK). Ward's honey-soaked vocals, deft finger-picking, innate sense of melody and beguiling lyrics have already cemented his reputation as one of America's true [...]

Hamilton Leithauser is still crooning away in the latest album from the Walkmen, "Heaven," set to be released May 29 via Fat Possum. The amount of output from one of the most durable acts in music comes in the form of seven albums in ten years. That's almost on par with Frank Zappa or pretty damn close. The Walkmen become more refined with every album and like a good bottle of aged wine, the body of this album definitely has legs. Stream the new album via NPR over here . Look for the Walkmen to play [...]
