Wallis Bird has announced nationwide tour dates for 2012.

Here is my review of the first Irish festival of the season which took place over the last three days in Co. Louth called Vantastival . I was attending the festival as a blogger, music enthusiast as well as a father as I brought my twin 9 year old boys with me. This was the second year of Vantastival . While the line-up of last year was stronger there was really no comparison to be made to last year's inaugural festival. The organisers [...]

People jostled eagerly into the beautiful Union Chapel, full of grand expectations for the sole London performance of Anais Mitchell's acclaimed folk-opera Hadestown. Featuring a stellar cast of folk greats including Jim Moray, Wallis Bird (who totally rocked during her support set) and the LEGEND that is Martin Carthy, the pressure was on for them to deliver a knockout show. And at times they did. At times the fourteen-strong cast held us deeply under the spell of Mitchell's superbly written tale, helped not a l... Read more..

It says a lot about the character of an artist when they begin a gig by bounding onstage with the house lights still on full beam to have a pre-gig chat with their audience. "Just because I'm wearin' a dress doesn't mean I'm a lady now," is Wallis Bird's opening line of the evening, and from there it's straight into the trademark gags and colourful language which make the interludes of the Wexford woman's gigs almost as entertaining as the musical performance itself. One-by-one the band appear from the wings to join in on an acoustic rendition of 'Berlin' – [...]

What a week it's been. Gerry Ryan RIP. RTE had plans not to announce this tragic news of Gerry Ryan's death until 5pm out of respect for the family and also to give the many friends of Gerry time [limited] to be contacted. However as was commented on by many media pioneers yesterday Gerry Ryan's death will go down in social networking history as being the first major story to 'break' via tweets in Ireland. RTE made the right judgement to hold off on the announcement out of respect but the passing of information [...]

Wallis Bird is one of an increasingly rare breed of singers. The Wexford lass is the type who builds a name for herself through incessant touring, wins support though word of mouth more than online hype and slowly acquires a dedicated fan base who – in some cases at least – seem to trail along after her for city after city. Her slow-building career is perhaps the reason why when Wallis picked up a Meteor Award earlier this year – and with it a jump in national level recognition - she looked so shocked and excited she [...]
