Tweetvaso link ...and the streak of fantastic bands out of PDX continues. Through Starfucker's Twitter account (@starfucker_USA) I've been able to find about such great acts as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and most recently read a message about a band whose music sounds as if it could be a distant relative of the two. The band...
A few music items that caught my eye. 1. Seattle's The Head & The Heart released one of my favorite records last year and now that they're signed with Sub Pop it seems like they're getting to do things like make music videos. Here's the latest for the stellar album opener, "Cats and Dogs." Seems like it's an abbreviated version from the album track, but it's still quite nice. My bad, I always forget that the transition from "Cats and Dogs" into "Coeur D'Alene" [...]

Portland's Wampire In a celebration that couldn't be described any other way but, " just because they're good ," university radio stations KOXY (Occidental) and KXSC (USC) joined up with I See Sound to present a threesome bill pairing of fringe-edging indie bands at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts as last week came to a close. The audience mostly comprised of student groups and their dates, managed to populate the far-too-beautiful vintage LA space, columns included, for the bulk of the night. Playing first, the smoke-machine repping, garage psych-leaning delivered a pleasurable [...]

HELLO ELECTRIC, WAMPIRE, HOUSEFIRE ( Mississippi Studios , 3939 N Mississippi) There's no better time than an all-ages Valentine's dance party to release a record like Hello Electric's Skychief . The album-sadly not named for Robert "The Chief" Parish's hook shot-was recorded by John Gourley from Portugal. The Man, and the two bands share an artistic kinship of freewheeling rock numbers unafraid to push and pull in any given direction. The towering rock songs of Skychief are capped by the confident delivery of frontman Kirk Ohnstad, whose charismatic cadence [...]

My friend, DJ Echoes, introduced me to intothewoods.tv and I'm making way through all of the video archives. There are a bunch of different video series and one of the coolest ideas is to have a band and their friends go up to a cabin "in the woods" to have a party and play music. I'm pretty sure that it's just Portland area bands but it's an idea that could work in a lot of places and would be something that I'd love to do once I get out to Colorado. The production value is awesome and so [...]

If you missed them at FMLY FEST last year and at McWorld earlier this year, you are in for a real treat. These guys rock harder than most people can dream of. Both times they've been in LA, it's been some of the best shows that have ever graced the McWorld space. You don't call a music festival "The Great Idea" unless the name really applies. Still, we can't think of a better name for a fest of local music that takes place at a creepy old amusement park. Last Friday a bunch of bands from Portland and Salem—including Typhoon, Reporter, Wampire and Skeletron—stormed the Enchanted Forest for a day of games, tunes, and lots of smiles. Photographer Bobby McHugh went along for the ride and came back with these rad photos. Guys, the campaign for a day of music at Oaks Park starts right now. [...]

Wampire is coming back to LA August 28th to bring their upbeat synth pop to the Troubadour and celebrate their upcoming release Glitterman with The FMLY Recording Company. The past two times they came through, first for FMLY FEST last year, they rocked McWorld to it's core. Everyone was rocking so hard the place almost fell down - Especially Dustin . This time they will be playing with some of the most powerful performers in LA. : Wampire :: Former Ghosts [...]

So it's been six months since last years FMLY FEST which set the stage for much of what has happened this year. It was Wampire 's first LA show, Active Child 's second show ever, Timothy Rabbit of The Morning Benders brought us back to our younger years, and there was just too much else to talk about not to mention this was the second McWorld show. We laughed, we danced, we swayed back and forth, we fell on the ground and passed out, and we made so many new friends. [...]

Who's your favorite dance band in Portland? Chances are, it's one of the six—yep, count 'em on two hands!—bands/artists on the new PDXTC split from High Scores and Records . Just one month after the label—founded by Devin Gallagher of Typhoon, Ghosties, etc.—released Guidance Counselor's self-titled debut on vinyl, it's dropping another dose of beautiful vinyl. The Ian Anderson-curated 12-inch LP features new tracks from Guidance Counselor , Atole , Breakfast Mountain , May Ling , Jeffrey Jerusalem and Wampire . The record drops on Thursday, May 27, with everyone [...]
