Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive XYQ Management Wang Chung is one of many '80s acts that is often remembered as a one-hit wonder when in fact they dented the charts multiple times. The English duo -- singer-guitarist Jack Hues and bassist Nick Feldman -- enjoyed a string of hits during that decade, the biggest being the smash "Everybody Have Fun Tonight." That song, in [...]

Wang Chung Exclusive Interview: Wang Chung February 14, 2013 by Chuck Norton Bands come. Bands go. Bands have hits. Bands are forgotten. Bands become part of the cultural lexicon and carve a niche in pop-culture history. Okay, so that last part only happens a few times every decade. Sometimes that status is because of overwhelming commercial success. Sometimes it is because of a kitschy, industry-produced one-hit-wonder. Sometimes it is because of a combination of talent, timing and uniqueness. [...]

Wang Chung might be best known to our readers for their self-referencing #2 hit from 1986 Everybody Have Fun Tonight, but the British new wave act weren't a one hit wonder. They also scored commercial success with Let's Go! in 1986, Hypnotize Me in 1987 and Dance Hall Days in 1984. Dance Hall Days was the rare track that charted high on both the dance/disco charts AND the mainstream rock charts making it the perfect cover candidate for another band that has elements of rock and dance/disco in their sound - Umphrey's McGee backed by Mad Dog's Filthy [...]

Sometimes we wish we could simply write something like, " Want to hear the 2012 version of Haircut 100? ", and be done with it. It would make our life so much easier, give you enough context, cut out the endless hyperbole and take far less time to digest. However, with every new band there will always be talking points, hidden histories and opinions that we believe are just as important to give you a detailed framework, but most importantly it is this that gives The Recommender it's 'voice'. We don't want to be just another blog, posting the same [...]
Rare daytime post! Art Of Noise Art Of Love (Extended Mix) Ambience Of Love Heart Of Love So how the hell didn't I know about this? In 1990, Art Of Noise released "The Ambient Collection." As its name suggests, it is a collection of Art Of Noise tunes reworked as a continuous ambient mix. That alone sounds pretty rad. What makes it even more rad (I'm totally bringing "rad" back, by the way) is that the [...]

Band'its At Ten O'clock is another 101 release that came out the same year as Live Letters . Unlike that album, this record is a collection of studio cuts and not live records. But it's equally, if not more so, impressive and well worth the listen today. The Scene All People Go Mad You like mod music? These guys sure did. This album came out in 1980, but this song sounds like it was ripped straight out of the late-60s. Great stuff, very [...]

I first posted this album eons ago, and it sounded like complete dogshit. In my ongoing effort to redeem myself for my ceramic needle USB-turntable early days, here it is again, re-recorded with decent equipment. Live Letters - Bands Featured Live at the 101 Club This is a very interesting record, and I wish I knew more about the people who made it. Apparently the 101 Club was a venue in South London in the early 80s, but I don't know for how [...]

I would have included some Was (Not Was) stuff but I have to re-record those and I'm really tired. Wang Chung Let's Go! (Shep's Mix) Let's Go! (Dub Mix) Before I go any further, I think we need to discuss this video for this song. Go ahead and watch it. I'll wait. That was something huh? A while ago I said that Pretty Poison's "Catch Me I'm Falling" was the most 80s shit ever. [...]

British producer/DJ duo Psychemagik are known for their vast and varied record collection and their various edits and productions. Be it balearic to folk, deep electro synth jams to heavy funk, lush orchestral soul through to psychedelic hip hop and beyond, Psychemagik can do it, and do it well. I have been immersed in their edits and productions for the last week and don't intend to stop any time soon. Highly recommend getting involved. Everyone wants to Wang Chung but it won't be tonight but you'll be able to next month! Wang Chung are back with a headlining date at the Satellite on Thursday, Sept. 1. The Wang Chung tour date is in support...
Here are five songs that I missed the first time around, but thanks to television, video games, and general pop culture, they found a way into my life (and into my heart). Dance Hall Days – Wang Chung One of the best songs from the Vice City soundtrack. The song makes absolutely no sense, though. Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) – Journey Another song I first heard in the 90s on a Beavis and Butt-Head [...]

Pretty psycho magic in fact. Psychemagik are some boys from the UK working in psychedelic electronica. Their remix of Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere', that I posted some time ago, caught alot of attention but their originals show the ground work for the genius. They obviously have a thing for retro throw backs but you could say that about pretty much everyone at the moment. The difference is, well as I see it, they don't seem to want to tow the line, [...]

The 90-minute premiere of The Walking Dead , based on the Robert Kirkman comic book series, pretty much lived up to all the hype that proceeded it. And audiences ate it up in droves (premiered with 5.3 million viewers, which is more than double what Mad Men achieved on their recent season four finale and approx 2.4 million more than highest rated episode). Fans of the comic book will notice a drastic cut in the amount of dialogue, which is a welcome change. The long, wordless scenes with Rick (Andrew [...]

Which got us thinking about singers who have defined the sound and spirit of an entire film without ever appearing onscreen. [...]

He's at Spaceland tonight with George Ellias , among others. ☛ Nite Jewel celebrates the release of its new EP "Am I Real?" at the Troubadour, supported by Teen Inc. and a DJ set from Peanut [...]

It's Friday and I'm afraid there is no Top 5 Most Played Songs list this week because I lost all the play count numbers when my computer crashed. Yes, my computer flipped out in exactly 3 months and 5 days. That, my friends, is a personal record for me. See that picture on the left? That's what my computer would have looked like if it were a desktop and if I wasn't able to return it for a full refund. The nice computer store people even threw in a few oatmeal raisin cookies just to [...]
