Great Stuff , the revered music label responsible for a release that found itself on LessThan32s Top 15 Tech House Tracks of 2012 chart, has begun their tenth year with the release of Jay Lumen's Get Yaa! EP. Jay Lumen's history goes back to 2006, when he was beginning to make a name for himself in the European club circuit as a progressive house DJ before he switched to techno in 2006. The Hungarian's productions, picked up by both world-renowned labels such as Ministry of Sound , Armada and Anjunabeats [...]
Jay Lumen had a busy 2012 - releasing about ten EPs on a range of labels from Drumcode, Tronic, and 100% Pure - under the techno and tech house umbrella. The Hungarian star is already at it again in 2013 with his latest EP Get Yaa! (a title we're going to forgive), out earlier this week on Great Stuff Recordings. Get Yaa! is techno done right - equal parts swinging bass, vocal chops, and storming percussion. On this EP Lumen bears his pure techno chops, but also does not alienate the groove that only a funky house track can [...]

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine is one of metal's most known figures. The man has a giant platform to make his voice heard, with other 5 million Facebook likes. So, other than ranting about his latest political views, how does Mustaine choose the end the year? By ranting about Men's Warehouse of course. The Megadeth frontman posted a ... Carlo Lio's Rawthentic imprint present 6 originals on this Various Artists EP, each of which has its own unique flavour. The standout for me is Kareem Cali's Kick Back - a dark grooving track that sounds like it was written with a low ceilinged warehouse in mind. Its subtle groove has you bobbing without even realizing it. I'll be playing an after hours event this NYE and can't wait to inflict this one on the dance floor. Also notable is Josh Butler's Shakedown with its simple but effective syncopation and snappy vocal sample. [...]

As part of their annual Hanukkah residency , Yo La Tengo' s three members - Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley, and James McNew - curate an exclusive mixtape to be sold exclusively at each of the eight shows. This year, the band will also be selling copies online to benefit Brooklyn's North Records warehouse, which was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. As Kaplan explains (via Matablog ): As we’ve done the last two years, we’re going to make the mixes that Georgia, James and I compiled available to you the downloading public for [...]

Melbourne Music Week and Mess + Noise put together the Berlin-esque event of Distant Tempos. 6 independent artists performed on Tuesday night with Oliver Tank, Mitzi, Lost Animal, NO ZU, Thrupence & Simon Winkler. If you have been living under a rock, the pop up venue is held in The Argus Building. If you haven't had the chance to check out an event at Where?House you most certainly should, there are a few more nights left of incredible music this weekend. Oliver Tank dropped-it-like-it-was-hot but my personal favourite of the [...]

Somewhere... in between Post-Punk, Gothic Rock and Indie Rock. The Funeral Warehouse besuchen: Facebook | Bandcamp [...]

The awesome cats over at Stray Landings give way to their second installment of their compilation series and this time under the name, Turn To Erosion . The collection of tracks contributed by the low-key artists explore the many variations of concurrent leftfield electronic music. My favorite from the 9 tracks comes from the mind of The Weald with his sound arrangement entitled, 'Cardboard Heart'. The pumping bassline renegades its industrial metal scoring into the depths of a warehouse venue creating an ultimate vibe to ge the bodies moving, heads rolling, and hands [...]
Booty shakin beats married with Bollywood strings and enough wobble to wake the neighbors. ..

[Art by Brian Vu ] Orange County native, Jack Heffron aka Zeadron is one young electronic producer and songwriter that everyone should have an ear out for. He explores the spectrums of sound that range in the house, garage, dubstep and bass fields. If you can recall, Zeadron released two magnificent pieces last year on Rebel ; Hold My Hand? No and When I Fall . Since then he's been continuously uploading his soundcloud with gorgeous experimentations one after another exposing [...]

I see a lot of ridiculously amateur album art, but this goes in my "didn't even try" pile. Honestly, is this a candid of a chick standing in a foil draped room with few balloons, you could try to make it seem like you didn't just randomly choose the 3rd or 4th font on your list and settled. This looks like she had just stepped in front of the camera, someone snapped her by surprise, and yelled that's a wrap. However, the songs on this EP aren't amateur at all, really great stuff, the opening track "Dust" is fantastic, and [...]

If you aren't already familiar with London 15 year old, Happa , I highly suggest you check in with his sound. Its brewed in from his Half Persian Prince mind in the ways of Leeds. He did a great introductory mix on Mary Anne Hobbs mighty XFM show. Incredible forms of "dark twisted techno and house", just as Ms.Hobbs mentions. The kid has been cooking up tracks left and right on the burner throwing out tunes that are carried by this dingy warehouse vibe. Its clear his sound will fire up any dancefloor and get [...]
