The nice people at Mint Gallery have gathered together a herd of Atlanta's fringe (and, arguably, not-so-fringe) musicians to make both visual art and mixtapes to go along with their art. The line up is impressive: Ben Coleman of Judi Chicago, members of Vera Fang and Sealions, Attractive Eighties Women's Mack Williams (AKA Phoebe Cates), Bean Summers (musician-ish, right?), and at least a dozen more artist/musicians. There's a more comprehensive rundown of the artists and organizations involved in Jeremy's article at Pine Magazine, which also contains some great quotes, like this one from Ben [...]

Nine Inch Nails last week ( photo credit: Rob Sheridan ) Tonight Nine Inch Nails and Deerhunter are playing at the Gwinnett Center Arena, so that is the big show of the week. If you aren't planning on heading to the 'burbs for that, I recommend going to the Drunken Unicorn tonight and catching Intronaut , Behold... The Arctopus , and Mouth Of The Architect . Behold... The Arctopus 's Skullgrid made our Top 50 albums list from [...]

I have to say I'm a little bummed - back at the end of July I bought tickets for tomorrow night's Nashville Symphony performance, and at the time there was really nothing on the concert calendar that I thought I'd miss (yes it was two months out, but I usually hear about things pretty early). Now there's not only one but two excellent shows going on tomorrow night that I'm going to miss. Which sucks, but at least I'm excused from making a tough decision. First up is Warm in the Wake [...]

After one of the largest album release weeks of the year, I was kind of hoping to not have the same thing happen for the second consecutive week in a row. As you can see though, we were not let off the hook with this week's releases either. Not as many high-profile albums with this bunch, but still more than enough goodies to wet your appetite for something new. If there's one album this week that I can highly recommend, it would certainly be the US release of New Young Pony Club's Fantastic [...]

OK, so the big ticket show in DC tonight, is Neko Case at 9:30 Club . Well guess what? It's sold out. if you don't have tickets, you are in luck. The Red and The Black also has a great show. DC locals The Beanstalk Library are heading a wonderful bill. Hershey, PA's The April Skies will be joining them with their brand of Europop. Decatur, GA's Warm in the Wake open the very strong evening. So if you are looking for something new, I highly recommend checking this [...]

Just when you thought this icon had died...it's back! I've had a great four months since I moved here to Atlanta and seen more shows then I've been able to document. However, it looks like I'll be leaving here in a month. So, I wanted to give our readers a taste of some of the cool acts from this city. There are a few obvious ones...a few painfully obscure ones...and a few that should be huge any day now. For our Athens, GA readers...there will be a Spotlight: Athens forthcoming. [...]

My ears always perk up a little bit when I hear some warm, welcoming music. I felt that way pretty quickly about Warm In The Wake. Maybe its due to their southern tendencies, though they are not to be classified as country. Its a little easier to place them somewhere between Band of Horses and early Neil Young. At any rate, the band have a southern hospitality to their music that is very inviting and comfortable. The band have an album out now on LiveWire Recordings titled Gold Dust Trail. [...]

Why does change come on like a freight train? Is it so you can't hesitate? You just take it on and hope for the best? Change sucks, it's mean and heartless and it sucks! Change says, "Ok this, this and this is going to happen but you have to do this and this" And my "this" is like so much harder than the "this" Change is responsible for. Am I making sense? And I'm so stuck, knowing what I have to do but having a difficult time following it through... Anyways... Rich turned me on to [...]
photo by Kristen Alexander 2006 i want to thank rich from cable and tweed to bringing this group of atlantians/decaturites, warm in the wake, to my attention. they just released an ep entitled gold dust trail and if you are in the market for sounds that would fit ever so nicely with a beer, a [...]

Atlanta, GA Warm In The Wake is definitely one of those new bands to watch for in '07. Their 7-song EP was just released last month from Livewire Recordings and if you're in my neck of the woods, you can check them out at Grog and Tankard on February 22. [...]
Norah Jones has a new record coming out next week. Not Too Late hits stores Tuesday, January 30th. The material is classic Norah Jones and not the punkish pop she'd been experimenting with last year in NYC clubs. Stream: Windows Media / Quicktime / Real The Jesus and Mary Chain (yes another Scottish band!) are joining the list of reunions and will play at Coachella. You can refresh your
