Jani Lane, former singer of hair metal hitmakers Warrant, who had very public battles with alcoholism, was found dead yesterday in California. He was 47 years old. Lane was responsible for Warrant's biggest hit, "Cherry Pie," a song that, perhaps apocryphally, was written at the behest of the record company, and eventually became the band's far and away biggest hit. TMZ is reporting that ex-Warrant singer Jani Lane was found dead in a hotel room in L.A. this evening. Unfortunately, Lane's been battling drugs and alcohol for so many years that this doesn't come as a surprise but it's still a shock.
