As I tucked a second swimming suit into my bag that was probably too large for the three days I’d be away, I actually said aloud to myself, and I suppose perhaps my cat, “I’m going to a music festival. On the beach. As a VIP. With a press pass.” A little yelp came next, accompanied by an involuntary jig I can only assume looked like a combination of the Bluths doing their respective chicken dances. Such behavior showed up in spurts since [CoS photographer] Josh [Mellin] texted me on a cold March morning and said, “Um, guess what I [...]

Last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, a meeting of the guitar gods took place when Warren Haynes sat in with longtime collaborator Joe Bonamassa . The two have shared the stage many times in the past at Joe's gigs and at Gov't Mule shows as well as other appearances. Warren came out to help on Crossroads, If Heartaches Were Nickels and Look Over Yonder's Wall. The two duel it out in true axeslinger fashion as we can see in videos of [...]
To answer the obvious question, yes the Howlin’ Brothers do indeed howl on their major label debut called Howl. They also hoot, holler, bash away at banjos while fiddling as the barn burns down. At a recent Howlin’ Brothers show, a guy in the audience turned to me beaming and shouted, “I expected bluegrass, but this is a hootenanny!” I [...]

Our pal and God Street Wine tour manager Michael Weiss has dug deep into his archives and came up with a gem of a performance. Haynes sat in on a cover of Sweet Little Angel by B.B. King and [...]

Warren Haynes is a one man weapon of mass destruction. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him as one of the 25 greatest guitar players in rock, and he is easily one of the genre's best signers. We talked about the Gov't Mule's new release -- The Georgia Bootleg Box , his band's history, and the future of his music. It can be said that the members of Gov't Mule have picked up the James Brown mantle and become the hardest working men in show business. The famed jam band continue to tour relentlessly, play marathon three or four hour [...]

Gov't Mule's four-show New Year's Run continued last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, where Warren Haynes and Co. were supported by HT faves Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds . A few days ago Warren Haynes told the Asheville Scene that he had one more addition to the lineup for tomorrow's Christmas Jam that he was trying to confirm... "There just might be one more big act added to the jam lineup Saturday, but Haynes is keeping the details under wraps since it isn’t confirmed . “There’s a good chance, a better than 50-50 chance, but I don’t want to spread rumors,” he said. Apparently Haynes was successful as The Avett Brothers have been added to [...]

One of the more exciting runs in post-Dead history came to a close last night when Phil Lesh, John Medeski, John Scofield, Warren Haynes and Joe Russo finished a three-night stand at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, Calif. As they did on the first two nights, the extremely talented combo mixed classics from the Grateful Dead songbook with assorted covers. [Photo by Scott Gordon] Among the quintet, Warren Haynes was the lone member known for his singing so he handled vocals for most of [...]
