Asheville, North Carolina native Warren Haynes gives back to his city in many ways, the most noticeable of which is his annual Christmas Jam concerts. The yearly event has raised more than one million dollars for the Asheville Area Habitat For Humanity. Over the past few months word has been trickling out of an upcoming series of shows called the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Tour featuring Gov't Mule / Allman Brothers guitarist Warren Haynes teaming up with some of the country's best symphonies to play Garcia's masterworks. A special Allman Brothers Band aftershow took place at the intimate environs of Lucille's within BB King's Blues Club in New York City last Saturday night. The show was billed as " Colonel Bruce Hampton & Friends," the Colonel was backed by a band that included AJ Ghent on eight-string lap steel guitar and Jez Graham on keys. Last night Allman Brothers Band guitarists Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes bridged our favorite two annual New York City residencies , when they performed both with the Allmans at the Beacon on Manhattan's Upper West Side and with Soulive at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg on the same night. Over the last month a number of Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebrations featuring Warren Haynes and orchestras performing the music of the Grateful Dead have been announced. Today, two more Symphonic Celebrations have been added to the schedule. On June 18th, The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will present the music of Jerry Garcia at Heinz Hall in Pitsburgh. Last month we shared the news that Warren Haynes will team up with the Boston Pops to pay tribute to the music of Jerry Garcia at Tanglewood on June 22nd. Apparently this won't be a one-time thing as a new pair of Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebrations have been announced. Haynes and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra will play the Louise M. Island Exodus '13 continued yesterday at Breezes Grand Resort in Negril, Jamaica where attendees were treated to a Warren Haynes solo show as well as a performance by Anders Osborne and his band. Gov't Mule's four-show New Year's Run continued last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, where Warren Haynes and Co. were supported by HT faves Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds . The String Cheese Incident made their first full-band appearance at one of Warren Haynes' annual Christmas Jams this past Saturday night in Asheville. SCI's set marked their first live performance since their summer tour ended in July.
