Wartime Blues | Photo by Russel Daniels And now three reasons to skip out on training camp and hustle on over to The Whistler this fine evening... 1. Hailing from Missoula, Montana, the great city that is birthplace to filmmaker David Lynch and Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, Wartime Blues create neither darkly landscaped films nor Seattle grunge rock. Instead, the eight-member group's folky escapades fall neatly in line with Chicago's alt-country heroes Wilco but with some very fun bluegrass flourishes. But what's most impressive about Wartime Blues is [...]
The Underground Music Showcase (UMS), one of the largest indie music festivals in the Western United States, celebrates its 10th Anniversary in Denver this weekend (July 22-25) by taking over 10 blocks of Denver's South Broadway. The four-day event features restaurants, boutiques, live music venues, giveaways, and other promotions all weekend long… oh, and let us not forget – more than 300 of the best bands, singer-songwriters, and comedians from all over the world in 25-30 venues. If you're in the area, a four-day wristband will only set you back $40 (that's only ten bucks a day, folks), [...]

MP3: Wartime Blues "Youth" Missoula, Montana 8-piece folk rock outfit Wartime Blues are releasing their debut album " Doves & Drums " later this year. Check out the first single " Youth " here .

Wartime Blues hail from Missoula, Montana, a good five hour drive from a small(er) town named Big Sandy. Son of the mayor, that's where Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament grew up, where he learned to play bass and shoot J's, skills that he'd later take with him to school in Missoula. As the story goes, Ament would eventually move on to a then embryonic Seattle scene in the mid-80s to focus on the former, becoming an eventual founding member of grunge blueprinters Green River and then Peej. But Wartime Blues have little in common with those bands sonically or conceptually, but [...]

[Sunday Supplements this week are brought to you by Campfires & Battlefields, to whom I owe an enormous apology due to the fact that I have been sitting on this post for ages, interrupted first by Christmas, then disorganisation, then ineptitude... you get the picture.] I don't think I've ever heard (or heard of) a band from Montana before, so I felt a real thrill of discovery when I happened upon Wartime Blues during one of my recent forays into the darker corners of myspace. As you might expect from a Montana band, [...]
The Montana music scene isn't well known to people who aren't from the great state of the Grizzly bear, but I've actually heard some really great bands out of the region. One of them that especially stands out is the Missoula, MT based grassroots, folk group Wartime Blues. If you are a fan of M. Ward, Wilco, or Modest Mouse, check em out! They just released a new album, Doves & Drums , that's one of the most solid releases of the year. The album has a heavy classic rock influence and front man Nate Hegyi's voice [...]
