Show Review: San Francisco’s 2012 Outside Lands Festival, Day 1
Additional contributions to this article by Dakin Hardwick. All photos by Jonathan Pirro except where noted. Summer is always slow and somewhat sporadic to come to the Bay Area, and with it comes a mostly dry spell of live music, with many large groups heading overseas for massive festivals and international tours, while California and [...]

Forecastle X: Day 2 recap
It's appropriate to lead off with a Jacket pic. Forecastle X Day 2. Let's do this. And on the second day Forecastle brought rain. Or, as a man under the highway dodging rain with us said, "God's washing dishes". It was said in such a matter of fact manner from this unknown person who was just trying to get yet another cigarette. After a short spell of said dishwater, the delayed festival gates let loose an eager, wet mob of music lovers. I must commend the Forecastle crew on the way delays were handled. Everything seemed [...]

The tender Washed Out track, “A Dedication”, receives a new beautifully shot video. Taking place on a serene lake house, our two characters must deal with loneliness, triumph, and ultimately, how to make the scenic weekend possible. INKRAAKT: A Semana em Resumo/The Week in Summary @ Kraak Facebook Page, #76
OUTSIDE LANDS DAY 1 WRAP: Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Washed Out, Tennis, Of Monsters and Men, The Walkmen, Fitz and the Tantrums
Uncle Neil put the toy trains away long enough to burn through a scorching mix of newer material (songs about love, Canada, farming, etc ....) and Neil classics (songs about love, Canada, farming, etc). Growl and Co. have a seemingly inexhaustible repertoire of modern rock radio hits at their disposal and the FF crew (now featuring Pat Smear!) were not shy about their deployment. Closer "Everlong", one of those perfect alt rock songs, had even the most casual Foo fan head noddin'. [...]
Outside Lands Music Festival – Friday review
A day that started warm and sunny was quickly overtaken by wind and fog, but that did not stop 40,000 fans who make the trek to Golden Gate Park for the first day of this year’s Outside Lands festival from having a good time. The sell-out crowd was noticeably more than previous years. Last year, fans could easily slide their way to the front of most sets before 4:00. Not the case this year. A dense crowded was packed in front of the main stage for much of the night. EDM shows like headliners Justice and [...]
Can’t Get It Outta My System
RR The sticky song of the week award goes to Washed Out for creating a fantastically dreamy remix of My Morning Jacket’s “Outta My System” that has been in my head ALL week. The chorus sounds like it’s floating through space and he replaced most of the lyrics with trippy spoken-word interludes about the capabilities of the mind and beyond. My favorite: “We all believe in something. Even if we believe there is nothing to believe.” [...]

LISTEN: Washed Out ‘Outta My System (My Morning Jacket Cover)
WASHED OUT (aka Earnest Greene), recently voted Georgia’s Dreamiest Electronic Musician (by me), has turned MY MORNING JACKET ’s ‘Outta My System’ from a slow burn psychedelic stomper to a sparkling piece of err… slow burn psychedelia? So he hasn’t changed it that much, but through the use of samples, a reverb laden vocal and that trademark misty synth, Greene has brought out the lighter side to this track and made it sound completely fresh. The song is part of a recently released compilation, the Outta [...]

Lollapalooza 2012: Day Two Review
If we're keeping a tally, and we aren't, Lollapalooza's Saturdays usually end up being the strongest of the weekend. In 2008, it was Rage Against The Machine . In 2009, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs filled in for The Beastie Boys when MCA was first diagnosed with cancer. In 2010, Phoenix played the biggest show of the band's career. And last year, it was front and center for My Morning Jacket . Predictably, 2012's Saturday stacked up as the strongest day of the weekend with the top-billed headliner [...]
