It's been nearly a year since Jess Matthews emerged with Fond Regards , the debut EP from her solo project, America Hearts . Simple and catchy, the EP introduced us to Jess' short and sweet songwriting, and familiarized us to her stepping out from behind the drum kit — the role she fulfills as a member of both Edie Sedgwick and Gestures. With Matthews leading on guitar and vocals, her America Hearts band is comprised of familiar D.C. music veterans, including Justin Moyer ( Edie Sedgwick , Antelope) currently on bass; Mark Cisneros (Medications, Gestures) on [...]
I'm totally (totes?) not feeling this whole spanish-exam-studying thing. And to make matters worse I can't go on IM, facebook, gmail or turn on my phone since I'm very carefully ignoring someone. To make myself feel less like an uber bitch, I, in all my genius, decided that the perfect plan would not be to blatantly ignore but rather avoid....thus the blame is shifted away from me and towards him! Its his fault he couldn't think of a more creative way to contact me, duh. [...]

ok, this may be another Gossip Girl-related post but you can't deny that the show has brought some kick-ass new bands to our attention, including Washington Social Club. what's not to love about this (you guessed it) Washington-based foursome? they have produced some catchy, dancable tunes and perfected the 'i'm growing my hair because i don't care what society thinks' look to a tee. check out riff-filled first single 'Diamond Hipster Boy' HERE . http://www.myspace.com/washing tonsocialclub damo's rock-a-bility rating: 4 1/2 out [...]

Let's keep this simple. To me, this site has always been about supporting the local music scene. So I decided, that there is no better way to celebrate our first anniversary, than to make a mix of local music from the past year. I had so much fun, that I ended up making two discs. Some of these bands have come a long way in the last 12 months, some didn't even exist when we started and others are no more. That said, every song is from a band that claims (or claimed) the Baltimore/Washington metro area as [...]

Song Washington Social Club ~ " Bigger Than Your Boyfriend " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =ineMN5cd3sU ~DC Style~ On the Dischord label. That's good enough for me. I first started listening to WSC when I heard the song "River and the Road" a year or two ago. I think I liked it mostly because it reminded me of River Road and my old hood growing up. Now add to it that they are supposed to have [...]

Washington Social Club - Not A Rockstar. One of the funny things about being a music blogger is that everyone assumes you're a complete and utter music snob--that your tastes are refined and lean towards the obscure, esoteric, perhaps even inaccessible. In our case, nothing could be further from the truth. Sure we write about a lot of new bands, but our tastes definitely run the gamut and are certainly not relegated to anything even close to a narrow musical genre. Which brings me to why I dig Washington Social Club, who are releasing their new CD this weekend...

A few weeks ago, I came up with this stupid idea. What if I pick twelve underground bands that I feel people should know about and do consecutive features on each? After I came up with the initial idea, things started to change around here. Mike (from Austin) left the site for personal reasons, making this a solo show based out of the Baltimore region. After he left, my friend Chris from DC asked if he could step on board and I gladly accepted his offer (introductions will be coming soon). All of a sudden, IA fully covered the entire [...]
