For me, 2011 has been an excellent reemergence (in my life, at least) of the punk rock. One of the most recent albums I've been spinning a lot lately has come from Denton's VIDEO. The band is comprised of members of Wax Museums and Bad Sports, bands I've already raved about. They just released their album, Leather Leather, on Play Pinball! Records, and it's nothing but a rocking adventure, harkening back to the grittier days of rock n' roll. On the track below, the song just builds and builds, exploding in the chorus in dramatic fashion, giving you an impression [...]

Good afternoon and thank you for reading. You have many choices to make for your web reading and I'm thankful that you chose to spend these next few minutes with me. Blah, blah, blah... I'm as big a fan of three guitar and a life of crime or the old sad songs as anyone around nine bullets but sometimes I need something a little different. Maybe it's a Sunday morning where I just don't want to get out of bed or a Tuesday evening when work has been too much and I'm exhausted and want [...]

Earlier this year, VV favorites David Wax Museum released Everything Is Saved , their third full-length and an album I called " a lovingly-crafted masterpiece ". For the record, I stand by that statement and it's still one of my favorite albums of the year. To celebrate it's release the band threw one hell of a party at Oberon in Harvard Square - complete with trapeze artists, confetti, scorpion-s Save & Close haped bass guitars and splintered jawbones (donkey jawbones, that is). Since then [...]

It would be easy for me to sing the praises of Lion Versus . After all, the local alt-folk outfit crafts something so bewitchingly human, so insanely poetic, so tragically sweet, and so happily depraved that it's like you're walking on the raw, dusty, debauched roads of Deadwood 's Old West. But, it's better if you see them live tonight at Johnny Brenda's, where they'll open for Boston's David Wax Museum. To know it is to feel it, y'all. Johnny Brenda's, 1201 N. Frankford Ave, 9pm, $12, 21+ - Annamarya Scaccia [...]

The 9:30 Club was brimming with folk fans ready to hear the buzzed-about David Wax Museum —their conversations floating from Burning Man, to Newport Folk Festival, and how to most creatively tie bandanas. Surrounded by my co-folksters, I felt simultaneously at ease and excited. Turns out I live for folk. Still flying from my high up in Newport, I was pretty excited to see David Wax Museum live, one on one with them, no dirt, no thousands upon thousands of people, good sounding venue in my own town. And I thought, they are [...]
En la música, cuando se echa un vistazo a los años ya depositados en el baúl del pasado, vemos bandas que definieron momentos específicos de la historia con un impacto tan contundente que nos cuesta creer que a la par de ellas alguien más hubiese hecho algo. Resulta hartamente [...]

David Wax Museum was declared "The breakout act at the Newport Folk Fest last year" by Paste . They solidified their reputation this year and have tour dates scheduled all the way out to March 2012! DWM are hot; not like a fleeting flash or a passing trend, they embrace enduring and influential styles of Latin America, weaving them flawlessly into classic folk. Rob Kirkpatrick from Huffington Post dubbed them The Best Band You Might Not Know, and after hearing them live was ...simultaneously excited to hear a [...]

Date Saturday, August 27th Location Beerland Doors 900p Tickets CHEAP You all know how much I love my punk rock, and probably the best place in town to enjoy such bands, for me, is Beerland . It's the perfect place to catch the gritty power-pop of Bad Sports , the Texas band who've been blazing away [...]
Day 2 of Newport Folk Fest was intense. We blasted out more than 40 tweets, twitpics, and instagrams yesterday alone, and here's a quick recap of the sights that accompanied the sounds. Above,... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

I've gone high concept this week, and that is not a reference to this week's cover art which is by my friend Davie Kaufmann. No, I mean there's a gimmick: all the songs on Summer Fridays 4.10 are less than two minutes long. All 33 of them (maybe even 34). With this kind of criteria, we don't really have much in the way of new music (two songs by my count) but quality remains high of course. I've tried to vary it up as much as possible because the bulk of the two-minutes-or-less songs in my collection are of the [...]

David Wax Museum at B.O.M.B. Fest in May ( more by Eric M. Townsend ) "David Wax is a rabbi in New Jersey recently accused of murder, but that's not the David Wax who fronts the David Wax Museum, a Latin folk band! This is all a terrible coincidence. David Wax and the other members play a raucous, Mexican-tinged folk music that also pays homage to indie rock (but without any ironic detachment)." [ Express Night Out ] David Wax Museum kicked off a run of summer [...]

The following is reposted from October 2010: My first introduction to The David Wax Museum was at the inaugural Kitchen Session back in March. I still remember showing up on that rainy Spring night knowing literally nothing about the band and leaving later in the night, CDs in hand, a fan. A polite golf clap turned into raucous applause over the course of the night as David Wax, Suz Slezak, Jiro Kokubu and Jordan Wax played an energetic set of Mexican-infused [...]

Like a trashier Ramones, Wax Museums fill their first album following a lengthy hiatus with plenty of cheap, fleeting thrills. "They say 'You're 25' / 'You're young and alive' / I just squint my eyes", Paul Museum sings at the start of the appropriately brief and antsy "Midlife Crisis", the barely-over-a-minute-long opener from this Texas punk group's first album following a three-year hiatus. Full of bratty numbskull humor, Eye Times features an energetic band of fellas who run through the album's 13 tracks as if they can't wait to tackle the next song. That doesn't...

It's been a long week, and I really something that would kick me in the teeth, no apologies. I got exactly that today when I got the new song from Wax Museums in my inbox today. This Texas punk group are going to be releasing their new LP, Eye Times , on Trouble in Mind Records on June 28th, and I couldn't be more ecstatic. Their brash and noisy, yet totally controlled, giving you an adventure that will allow you to bounce around [...]

We found out earlier this week that Henry Rollins joined the masses on Twitter, ( username @henryrollins ) and surprisingly so far hasn't said anything yet that has made us question the remaining shreds of his punk credibility, or like him any less for that matter. In fact, thus far we've quite enjoyed following the former Black Flag frontman. Earlier he mentioned his love for the new Thee Oh Sees record, which reminded us we too have been digging it but have yet to post anything about it. Furthermore, we remembered a few other MP3's we've been sitting on like [...]
I will full admit that this less-than-two minute fire bomb by The Wax Museums does nothing to push the boundaries of originality. And I couldn't care less. This is the type of shredding punk rock I've been missing in my life and to have it blast me in the face on a drizzly Monday morning [...]
