Tonight, a bit of an 80's night. The Human League at the Civic Hall. Support comes from '(We Are) Performance', a three piece from Manchester, who make a great sound. Although I keep looking around for their fourth member, the one who is bashing out all the amazing synth tunes. This is because they consist only of a suave looking singer, who's good; a girl with a guitar who only strums about three notes (not that that's a criticism, many a successful career has been founded on less) and an electronics whizz complete his MacBook but even he [...]
"The Living" by Performance When you ask a band or artist to describe their music, many fix you with an imperious stare and trot out something along the lines of " I don't like to describe my music, I leave that to less talented mortals, you, for example!" Which, let's be honest can make them come across as a bit of an ostentatious arse! So when Performance's singer and lyricist Joe Stretch describes their music as 'a subtle cross between [...]
Manc ElectroPoppers Performance (I've got used to dropping the '(we are)' now) have just premiered the video for their forthcoming single 'Unconsoled'. It's little more Indie than their last couple of singles, but a good indie, a kinda' early 90's indie, with a nice synth backing and it's an awesome video. How these guys aren't massive yet I'll never understand, especially with Joe Cross on team! [...]
Joe Cross is such the man to watch this year, he is a dude with his fingers in many pies! As well as being one third of Indie-Electro outfit Performance , he is also half of the awesome Kiss In Cities and had a hand in upcoming releases by HURTS and The Sound Of Arrows. Anyway, this is 'The Living', the latest single from Performance who really do have a knack for songwriting, they may be my favourite current (Indie slanted) Indie-Electro band in the UK. I think I like them so much 'cos they combine [...]
Unmade Beds is a great little indie film out this Friday (11 December) in the UK. Set in and around a Hackney squat, it's a real slice of East London, with scenes in Broadway Market and London Fields among other locations. But what's really notable is its music: coupled with lots of gig footage and a music video recording, Unmade Beds has a brilliant soundtrack, full of innovative sounds old and new. Here's a taste of some of the new stuff: (We Are) Performance A Manchester fourpiece of [...]
This is "(We Are) Performance", they are an electro-pop band from Manchester. They used to be called "Performance", but after a deal with Polydor fell through, they changed their name, causing fury among Last.fm listeners who listened to "Dotted Line" & "Surrender" a whole bunch (me). They have a lead singer called Joe Stretch (probably not his real name, impressive if it is) who is in my "Top Ten people who do SERIOUS face quite well" list. I'm not kidding, I actually have one... He writes novels. [...]

(We Are) Performance - Market Street - (Everything Is Changing) "It's more or less the same as the world" This is sort of a throwback post, as I've had (We Are) Performance's album for over a year now. It's also a post with a hell of a lot of parentheses. Now, as much as I liked the group's early material, I never could get into their album until recently. And now that I've given [...]
I first heard Mason Proper at an old radio station meeting as the staff were doling out new CD's for the club members to review. I heard the first few seconds of "A Chance Encounter" off of their acclaimed debut CD "There is a Moth in Your Chest", and once I heard the swooshing sythesizer and echo affected vocals, I was intrigued. Upon further examination the album proved to have many gems, among which were the manic synth driven "Lights Off" and thier hyper guitar heavy jam "My My (Bad Fruit)", that was reminiscent somewhat of the Pixies, [...]

Dolby Anol reMixes Performance
Dolby Anol have given their reMix treatment to Manchester's finest Indie-ElectroPoppers Performance 's latest single, 'Unconsoled'. Slightly more ElectroPoppy than we're used to from Dolby Anol, which, it turns out, is a pretty rad thing! A deep, analog SynthPop reMix is what we get here with some really subtly vocoding that gives, what was originally quite an emotive track, a roboticised feel. It's a cool reMix, gotta' love that computer funk! ♫ Performance - Unconsoled (Dolby [...]

Kiss In Cities reMix Performance, well, themselves
OK, so they may be reMixing their own band but Kiss In Cities , the amazing Manchester ElectroPop act, we told you about here , who are comprised of two thirds of Indie-Dance outfit Performance ( Née (We Are) Performance ), have reworked said parent band's most popular track to date. 'Reptile'. The original song is cool but this reMix is just pretty mind blowing, almost perfect electronic pop, this will absolutely slay on any ElectroPop dancefloor! ♫ Performance - Reptile (Kiss In [...]
