Last weekend saw the Camden Crawl festival land in Dublin for the first time, with two nights of music spread across the city. State was on hand to report on the event and here's our pick of the acts from home and abroad. And So I Watch You From Afar - Button Factory, Friday Few bands seem to get better and better every time you see them live, but ASIWYFA are made of special stuff. New guitarist Niall Kennedy has filled the very big shoes of Tony Wright with aplomb, splicing [...]

Here's some new to brighten your day if you're a UK reader, We Are Scientists have just announced a string of UK tour dates for this summer. They'll play a handful of dates including Manchester, London and Glasgow along with some Festival appearances in August. Make the jump to check out the dates. Fun loving hipsters. We are Scientists are no strangers to these shores having toured extensively throughout Ireland over the past ten years. A band born to party; founding members Keith Murray and Chris Cain have become renowned for never taking interviews too seriously and adding a comical element to their work. They have released three albums to date each with an iconic pop/ indie sound and are set to embark on a tour across Europe this summer. State caught up with Keith to see if the bands dynamic has changed after the permanent addition of Andy Burrows (ex [...]

So here we are at the third and final part of my preview of The Great Escape 2012, you can find Thursday's preview here and likewise Friday's here, no need to beat around the bush with introductions to a third part, straight on with Saturday's bands to see (in my opinion). Again I've limited it to seven acts, to give both time to enjoy Brighton and for me to write this. I've also decided to leave out the three bands I picked as tips for the Camden Crawl to avoid too much duplication with those posts (sorry Stealing [...]

Starting today, the Holiday Hunger Bundle , a charity project created in conjunction with the Feed Them With Music charity , is open for music fans to bid on four tracks from of Montreal ("Feminine Effects"), OK Go ("All Is Not Lost"), We Are Scientists (an acoustic version of "Central AC"), and Drive-By Truckers ("The Thanksgiving Filter"). So guess what? That bad boy could be yours if you're the highest bidder for the pay-what-you-want Holiday Hunger Bundle , an exclusive charity music compilation featuring unreleased tracks by OK Go ('All Is [...]

BAM! Bet you were expecting a Best of 2011 list, yeah? Well I don't got time for that (YET)! No...this is where I acknowledge all the great stuff I missed in 2010. 'Cause it doesn't get any more rock n roll than to talk about shit that's over a year old. Write that down in your How to Be Rock N Roll notebooks. Anyway, the last time I wrote this list , I spent quite a while talking about how there isn't enough time in one year to listen to all the potentially great releases and put [...]
Here's another thing that would be the lesser without the Bull And Gate: the Camden Crawl. The annual clatter-about-Camden multivenue gig thing has long been anchored, in part, by the B&G. Here's We Are Scientists from this year's Crawl: [Buy: Brain Thrust Mastery ] [Part of Bull And Gate weekend ] -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch

So the previous week I decided to spend my time convincing you to stop what you were doing, sit down, and enjoy a nice relaxing night of (mostly) gentle music to pull at your heartstrings . This week is a little different. Honestly the best thing you could do with this week's album is put it in your car, turn the engine on, and speed off (and by "speed" I mean the speed limit, of course) into the sunset blasting the music. With Love and Squalor by We Are Scientists is what happens when you [...]
We Are Scientists headlined the CMJ 2011 day showcase at Pianos on Saturday. I'm getting spoiled; it was their third free NYC show since June (I won't even tell you how many times I've seen them and their rotating cast of drummers). A cramped room with no backstage; a packed crowd already boozing at five [...]

Here's a nice little remix of OK Go's "All Is Not Lost" by Keys N Krates . It's not too heavy on the electronics, and generally didn't hurt my ears (the best kind of remix is one [...]
We Are Scientists and Ash join forces to fight MS with a cover of 'Washington Parks'
View the full photo set here. On a cobblestone street at the South Street Seaport, in broad daylight with no booze in sight, preceded by a corporate-sponsored breakdancing/hula-hooping act: this was no typical We Are Scientists concert. Yet with kids carrying homemade signs, with no stage (and no stage-diving - a pity), and with the [...]
The Stanley Blacks are a no-gimmicks indie rock band from the UK. Fitting into such a category is presently a tricky maneuver, as many of their counterparts are shrugged off in favor of over-produced, industrial sounds. But the four-piece have stayed true to the purest of music, even if their new album - which is [...]
I do feel that a festival wouldn't be a festival without these three things; A truly great live act, a terrific pair of unashamedly naked breasts, and someone gravely (and most of the time deservedly) injuring themselves due to a moment of awe inspiring stupidity. We shall return to this nugget of festival wisdom in [...]
