As expected the Dawes show was nothing short of amazing last night. Head over to the RFT's A to Z blog for Annie's great review . I'll be posting some videos from the show later today as I decide if I'm going to make the drive to Columbia tonight to catch them again. As a result of last night's festivities I'm a bit sleepy today, but I think I can get through the new releases (there really aren't all that many). I'm looking [...]
We Are Scientists "With Love and Squalor" was probably my last impulse musical buy. Back in the day, when strolling through a used CD store, if a band name or album cover caught my eye...I would sometimes take a chance on the record. This was especially the case when I was sifting through the dollar racks. I discovered a lot of cool bands doing this. Of course, I came home with a lot of crap

We featured Friends Electric the other week here on TGTF, and they've just scored the job of remixing the fabulous "Nice Guys" by We Are Scientists. Granted, it's not as good as Friends Electric's own stuff, or the original single, but hell, it's pretty darned good and the sort of stuff that many lesser artists can only dream of. Listen, download and enjoy. MP3: We Are Scientists - Nice Guys (Friends Electric remix) [See post to listen to audio]
Amidst the great groups this week is The Gaslight Anthem, who's first album The 592 Sound made headlines in their fantastic debut. På mandag udkommer We Are Scientists fjerde album, "Barbara" - formodentlig uden Goal! .

...and of course everyone's favourite is England. Just ask the Canadians. They got their best band (no, Celine Dion hasn't put a band together) We Are Scientist to represent them in the largest tournament there is - putting a world cup song together for England. This event is bigger than Eurovision and the results are just as bad. However, so far, We Are Scientists are the clear winners. Download GOAL England from the official site , for FREE!

Words: Gareth O'Malley // originally scribed for This Is Fake DIY Where do We Are Scientists find themselves now? Well, they've done their 'mission statement' record: 'With Love and Squalor'. They've also done their 'studio' record: the unashamedly 'big' sounding 'Brain Thrust Mastery'. So what now? Are they shooting for even bigger things and adding yet more elements to their sound? Er… no. They've decided to go for the 'oh, fuck it, let's make the absolute rawest-sounding music we can' approach this time around. 'Barbara' is very stripped-back. Actually, [...]
They've thankfully done an actual recording of it, offering it up for free download via the new Goal! England website. It sounds nice. They said to NME: "People ask why we didn't record a football anthem for America, when you want to give your girlfriend a great gift, you give her something you know she wants, not something you want. We've never been huge football guys, but we're pretty big England guys, and we know her well enough to know she loves her a football anthem. So we made her one." Brilliant. Goal! England [...]

Would a band be considered traitors to their country if they record a World Cup song for a rival nation? If so then We Are Scientists ought to be strung up by their ears. The Brooklyn, NY based band recently recorded the song "Goal! England" as an anthem for England's World Cup team, whose first game in the tournament is against the United States this coming Sunday. When NME.com asked the band why they recorded a song for England but not the U.S., bassist Chris Cain admitted that, "We've never been huge football [...]
