Another North by Northeast music festival is in the books, and with it, the bustling metropolis of Toronto is a little more quieter. Between June 15th and June 19th, an estimated 650 artists representing any and every genre you can think of played well into the Toronto night at close to 50 downtown venues. Streets where a great deal of bars are clumped together, like Queen West, the festival headquarters at the Hyatt Regency hotel on King, as well as the public square at the [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Dare to Care Records If standing up helps with voice projection then the same principle must apply to drummers if last night's We Are Wolves set at NXNE is any indication. Stickhandler Antonin Marquis took to his unconventional and signature upright position to bash out the opening beats of Wednesday night's closing set at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern, as crowd members tried to figure out [...]
These are clearly the best bands playing at NXNE this year and if anyone tells you otherwise, they are lying to you. The best ones are bolded. WEDNESDAY 15 JUN 2011 Pat Jordache 9 PM – Pat Jordache @ The Garrison <a href= http://awmusic.ca/1/mp3/Pat%20 Jordache%20-%20Get%20It.mp3("G et It -- I Know You're Going To") 10 PM – Wax Mannequin @ Bovine Sex Club ("Broken Friends") 11 PM – Red Mass @ Horseshoe ("Saturn") [...]

I'm completely pumped to finally see the multilingual circus show of We Are Wolves . They're playing in the 1 AM slot at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Wednesday night. By this time, I'm bound to be messy and in need of a cane. Many will point to Total Magique as the band's sophomore upswing, but I absolutely think 2009's Invisible Violence is extremely underrated. See our writer Justin's thoughts about the album in December of 2009 by clicking [...]
It's June and it means the start of the summer festival season. NXNE is happening very fast and this will be my third time attending it. I always have a fun time attending NXNE. You can go check out what I did on previous NXNE coverage on here . This is part one of who *whoever is in Toronto* to check out at this year's NXNE. *This list will change during the night of the festival.* Here is a list of who to check out on June 15, 2011. Already I am too [...]

This week (Sept 29-Oct 3) I will be attending the 9th annual Pop Montreal Festival . This year's line-up is eclectic from previous years. But there are great acts that you should definitely see this years. Here is a list for the week (It might change during the course at the Festival) For those that don't have the funds to attend the night shows, this year at Divan Orange there will be acts playing during the afternoon. I am more excited to see Leif Vollebekk and [...]
"Indianer" is a weekly show on the Lucerne local radio station 3fach . It's a show bringing you new tunes from all different types of indie music. In keeping with the theme of older but still awesome tunes, today we bring you "Blue" by Montreal's We are Wolves . And it's especially appropriate that this band is from the land up north because the first time I heard this track was this past weekend in Toronto (see yesterday's post for a couple of pics, and there are more on the flickr) with a few awesome friends. One of the great things about my friends is that everyone equally loves music, and between all of us, we have pretty much every genre of music covered. [...]

Photograph by Tim Snow Maybe I'm getting too old for festival concerts. Between slathering myself with SPF60, eating $5 hot dogs, running spastically between stages, cursing the overlapping schedule, being inundated with corporate sponsorship and drinking watery beer, I was caught between disillusionment and laughter toward the predictable pattern of music fests. The Osheaga Music and Arts Festival is in its fifth year, and has swelled from 25,000 to over 50,000 attendees. Despite my opening tirade, Osheaga has plenty to offer: a grassy hill with convenient stage view, venues of varying size (from cozy [...]

Let's play a little game of visualization, shall we? I want you to close your eyes and imagine the most culturally vibrant city in the world, where everywhere you turn there's either a bar or nightclub, and no one seems to ever sleep as the party lasts all day, every day! Did I happen to mention that it's on an island, almost separated from reality? Now I want you to picture a little slice of heaven amidst all this hedonism, a grassy, artificially-created sanctuary where residents can go to seek even more pleasure, often in the form of music. [...]

Sailing To Nowhere - Broken Bells Right now I wish I could be... sailing to nowhere would be the most elegant solution to my situation. A great escape into the wild. My choice isn't too far from this though. Leaving for a few days to the Canadian countryside, relaxing in a roundhouse cabin on the Lac Saint-Jean will make everything better, I know it. Another great thing will be waiting for me when I come back : Osheaga Festival [...]

The second last day of Ottawa Bluesfest . It was a rock and country theme on Saturday, July 17th. I was wondering if Nicole Kidman was around with Keith Urban?? The acts I saw were: The White Wires Bjorn Berge J.D. & The Details Matt Schofield Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience The Whigs The Hold Steady [...]
